WEST JEFFERSON, Ohio — A witness told investigators that two men appeared to be drag racing prior to a fatal crash on Sunday afternoon, according to a release issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 4:46 p.m. on Plain City-Georgesville Road, located south of County Road 30.
According to the patrol, Edgar Depp, of Plain City, lost control of his Honda Civic on Plain City-Georgesville Road and struck a utility pole and trees.
Depp, 49, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness at the scene told investigators that Depp appeared to be racing another vehicle before the crash.
Brian Gray, 22, who was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier, left the scene but returned about an hour later, according to the patrol.
The press release said that alcohol was present on both drivers.
There was no immediate word on charges in the case.
The crash remains under investigation.
