  1. Looking for a great deal on work/gaming desktop PCs. Need to buy 3 of them before the end of the year. If you see a great deal, please post up. I wouldn't mind piecing together and building one of them myself as a higher end gaming build, but would like at least 2 of them pre-built.

If you want to choose all the parts yourself Neweggs PC builder service lets you choose just about anything in stock in their Cali warehouse to build the PC from. That includes being able to get graphics cards that are otherwise unavailable at sticker price. The assembly fee is $100, way less than the scalper markup up just the video cards would be.

  2. I usually point people to this guide as a general personal finance starting point that is solid.

While not having PMI is a good goal I wouldn't put off home ownership because of it. It can be removed once you pay the loan down or you can refi to get out of it.

  3. We had to re-do everything when we moved in here since it was still fuel oil and the a/c was from the 80s.

I went with a very efficient heat pump then used propane as secondary heat instead of the heat strips. I paired that all with a propane standby generator. The generator can run the a/c or the heat pump but if heat is called for I switch the furnace to propane only mode to drop the generator load.

If only we had natural gas available...

  4. Make it harder for deranged individuals to get guns.

    Universal background checks

    Red Flag laws

    High capacity magazine bans

Closing gun show and private sale loopholes

All of those are a start. I'm not against reinstating the "assault weapons" ban of the 1990's. Also, the gun that was used in Boulder skirts the definition of a rifle and is classified as a pistol. Had it been classified as a short barrel rifle there would have been a lengthy background check that would have included fingerprints, a photo, a $200 tax, and would need to be purchased from a specialized dealer. All are barriers to entry.

Something needs to be done. We can't just sit on our hands time and time again after this happens like "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ oh well." The problem is not going to be solved with one piece of legislation, we need to start whittling away at it.

New flash: Colorado has most of those already...

  5. Nvm

I believe this limit is only for now because they don't have enough satellites up to cover the planet so they are probably orbiting them so that they can cover only specific areas with a quality connection.

It also gives some insight into how the billing will probably work. Plans that are fixed to a cell will probably be cheaper than roaming plans just because they can.

  6. My wife is gung-ho about getting kids back to school, so she passed the FBI background check and got vaccinated to become a substitute teacher for UA Schools. I'm proud of her, but it's sad that many schools don't have enough teachers for hybrid/in-person classes.

Could be worse. Most places can't find enough nurses to hire. We are starting to pull any office staff with credentials out onto the floor.

  7. If you're towing it to Alum Creek whatever.

If you're going to be towing it long distance anything that reduces the number of inputs the driver has to do helps. If you weigh the camper once it is loaded with stuff it will probably be heavier than you think. The weight distribution will help keep more weight on the front of the tow vehicle air suspension or not, it isn't just about leveling.

  8. Coyote swap. Seriously. you don't need a $6-8K crate motor, I've seen 2011-2014 coyote's for $3200 out of wrecked mustangs, and F150 coyotes for around $2500.

Keep it bone stock looking, I wouldn't even repaint it. Maybe clean up some of the trim and that's it. Let the engine bay or the rear tires do the talking.

I have to agree with this I like the all original look.

  9. I put Scorpion ATs on my Sierra a couple months ago. Slight MPG drop but I leveled the front end and ripped off all the aero at the same time so...

They have noticeably more grip than the factory junk did in the wet, haven't had to leave in the snow yet.

I just put Pirelli Scorpion AT's on my Cherokee. Great ratings at tire rack. Ride great, have been good in rain and a nice looking sidewall. They are 3PMSF, but I'm afraid that doesn't do you much good.

I have seen a noticeable loss in MPG, I keep pretty tight fuel economy records. That may be partially due to the switch to winter gas. Overall, I have no complaints about the tires.[/url]

  10. If it was me for the big mountain passes I would unhook the Jeep and have my wife drive it separately. You are rolling in an antique RV that will be challenged to drag itself over the passes especially at western altitudes.

You'll lose ~30% of your horsepower at 10k ft, probably more since you're running a carb.

  11. My call is disgruntled AT&T employee. Wanted to hurt the company but not people. Rigs the RV with explosives and a countdown with a warning. Parks it next to the building on the day with the least people in the area. Then he starts the countdown/announcements and offs himself (gunshot, found body parts).
  12. It depends on how you look at it. I recommend everyone read After You Shoot by Alan Korwin. It’s a great read and will really make you think about what happens after an event. Even if you do everything “right” you will likely still be spending some time with the police and need legal representation. If you have the funds for that then no worries. But most people don’t and legal costs can cripple a family. There are a bunch of differences options, USCCA, Second Call etc. The biggest advantage I see is having a network of lawyers that will work with you and the up front cash to pay for bail and retainers if necessary.

People who are considering it can offset some of their risk by educating themselves. Read and know the laws. Know what to say if you call the police. Have an emergency fund with enough for bail or retainer. Know the name of the lawyer and memorize her/her number. If you don’t carry outside your home, the likelihood of needing the coverage goes down. But if you carry outside your home, there are a lot of external forces you can’t foresee. Good luck and thanks for reading.

I was referring specifically to "home defense insurance".

As you say carry outside the home is more complex. You need to know the laws and what to say to the police even with insurance. I'd also much rather choose my own lawyer (Derek DeBrosse in my case) than trying to find one that accepts the insurance.

Putting money towards an emergency fund is way more valuable than paying an insurance company for a situation that is extremely unlikely to happen. This isn't like car insurance where you will probably have a claim eventually, it's like shark bite insurance. Holding that money yourself you can earn interest and use it if needed the million other more likely situations that could pop up. Paying the insurance the cash is just gone.

  13. The theater experience has been so bad the few times I've gone in the past 5-7 years they can all close and I will not miss them a bit.

The industry has had a decade to figure out a new business model and they spent most of it filing lawsuits against kids in their parents basements.

  14. We’ve been back and fourth with Westar and the hospital about this a few times today. The only give we’ve had is them willing to reschedule the cesarean to a later date. How that helps me be in the room for birth is beyond me.

Try their patient feedback number. Sometimes getting someone outside the practices in the loop will cause things to get fixed. 614-234-2777
