I recommend desktop since you'll get more bang for your $$$ The new iMac will have enough to run anything you've mentioned unless you're deep into graphic design, creating movies, producing music, etc. if that's the case - you'll want mac Pro if you use an iPod or iPhone you will love how much easier macs talk to them.
