  1. I guess they're a love or hate kind of thing with some. Personally, I really do love my Marlin 336 in .30-30. With the advent of automatics and bolt guns, the lever action seems to almost have been swept under the rug as a relic of the past. Doing some random searching (on top of being bored and having a day off) I thought about my Marlin I have sitting in the closet. I just so happened to remember Grizzly Custom Guns does a few things with lever rifles. Boy did I fall in love again with lever guns: http://www.grizzlycustom.com/pagephotos/lever_1895_4570_02.jpg I almost want to purchase the .45-70 1895 Guide gun for the make over, but I'm really thinking I may send my 336 in for a make over. Here's the list: •Shorten and re-crown barrel at 16.5" •Shorten magazine tube if required •Custom LPA ghost ring sight system with single post front sight •Premium quality dovetail fill to replace factory rear sight •Custom enlarged lever loop •Smooth all ports, inside and out •Modify loading gate for easier loading & unloading •Extensive action smoothing •Stainless steel follower •Trigger job with DRC trigger •Bobbed hammer •Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad •Custom leather butt-cuff ammunition carrier •Custom padded "Slimline" leather sling •Complete action dehorning •Satin matte metal prep and bluing All said work is around $1,300, but when you boil it down, I think it'll turn into one of my favorite rifles, not to mention a SHTF option aswell. Anyone else here into lever rifles or am I just on my own?
  2. I guess I should toss out Auto-Ordnance aswell. They're the company specializing in WWII era firearms, to include the 1911. From the looks of it, it's a simple G.I style 1911, or in other words plain and simple. No experience with the company, but their Thompson semi autos are pretty impressive. http://www.americanrifleman.org/Webcontent/images/2009-11/20091123145836-kahrarms_ms.jpg http://www.auto-ordnance.com/PA-1AO_pkz.html
  3. I'd buy a used Colt, save $$$, then send it to Wilson. But, off the shelf for the price range you're in, I'd go Springfield like most said. I've got a 1911-A1 with some work done, and it'll blow a 10 ring out with no issues. Personally I'm in the market for more of an Ed Brown, Wilson or Colt with some work done in the future. Needless to say, you don't need to drop $2K for a decent 1911.
  4. I have a Glock 36 and love it to death (single stack .45). 9mm vs .40S&W, in my opinion, .40S&W wins. With bullet weights between 155 to 180, you have a selection, not to mention cost wise is pretty resasonable these days.
  5. If you can wait til December Joe, I have more than a couple complete lowers I can toss uppers on. I'm pretty sure I can get you something together for the $900 range that will suit your fancy if you're interested. Not to mention, I'll throw in some ammo with it. I can save you the hastle of finding parts
  6. Probably talking about the abundance of cheap MILSURP 7.62X39mm running around. I think 5.56X45mm is cheap enough for me to shoot, on top of most 7.62X51mm rounds. I can't say I've been a huge fan of COMBLOC rifles, but I have a respect for the simplicity, even if it was technically stolen. Never cracked any rounds off with a Mini-30, but that's about the only rifle I'm interested in that fires the 7.62X39mm (Next to the AR converts to that cartridge.)
  7. Huge difference between the 4th and 5th gens. The 5th gen Camaro isn't half the car the new Mustang is in my opinion. Within the short trip Brady took me on in his 5.0, I was impressed. Glass roof, brembos, 6 speed, handling, interior, and not to mention the 5.0 motor. Hands down Ford seems to have read minds with this car, it's everything anyone could ask for. I'll be excited to see the Boss 302 out on top of all the others in the market like Roush. If I wanted another pony car, I wouldn't think twice about buying one.
  8. A standard A4 carrying handle should be perfect for your needs. And of course later on it can be removed if you get into reflexive sights or scopes. As for recoil, I do agree some of the stocks don't absorb recoil like others. Personally I despise the standard M4 style stock, where as my LMT MRP has the SOPMOD stock and it's nothing shy of awesome. The magpul CTR with the rubber pad is also another good option, but there is a few buffer set ups to reduce felt recoil. Once I'm back in December you'll have to shoot some of my AR's and see what you like, but I can promise my LMT will win your heart. Example of new Buffer to help with recoil: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/ST-T2-Heavy-Buffer-by-Spikes-Tactical-p/st-t2.htm
  9. Opposed to building a rifle, this is a great idea, not to mention Austin's reccomendation aswell.
  10. Not sure if you're shooting towards the M16 full length style 20" barrel or would lean towards the M4 16" barrel. I guess it's all within preference, but like anything you'll always want to do more, or put more on it. With that said, you can find a middle ground. As with Rob's set up above, it leaves room for more, so I will do a little leg work here. Let's begin: BCM Upper 16" - $520 (to include bolt/charging handle) MI Handguard/Rail - $129 Spikes Tactical Stripped lower - $90 Lower build kit to include MOE Grip/Stock/Trigger guard and Daniel Defense Lower Parts Kit - $149 $888 now this is excluding a rear sight. I prefer a flip up, but you can go with a traditional carrying handle set up. Tack on another $50-$100 depending on which one you go with. All in all, this gives you a very nice platform to begin with and build upon later if you felt the need. Granted this took me 4 minutes to piece together, while keeping price a factor. Here's a few websites to check out: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com http://www.palmettostatearmory.com http://www.brownells.com http://www.midwayusa.com Just to name a few
  11. Since I have a few 5.56 AR's, I wouldn't mind a 6.8 SPC rifle, but it sure as shit wouldn't be the primary rifle I own. AR's are great and all, but realistically, I've bought an M1A for my 7.62 fix, so 5.56 is good for me. But again 6.8 SPC is an intermediate round, so ballistics are ok and it has some power behind it. Personally, I could only think of using 6.8 as a defensive weapon or a hog hunting rifle.
  12. Holy crap! NICE NUMBERS! I bet he's more than happy with it again.
  13. Well Brady will be the first to tell you that these aren't some Cragar SS wheels or some knock off Konigs you'll pick up at Discount tire. Wheel applications for cars of this magnitude are custom made specifically to the vehicle. These aren't sitting on some shelf collecting dust, they're made for the vehicle to specifications. PPC carries a pretty large selection of wheel manufaturers. Not to mention, Brady is about the most meticulous and down right best guy you want to turn a wrench on your vehicle. If you've seen his work, you'll understand where repeat business and new business comes from. Best work in Columbus personally.
  14. EIB is easy shit, as long as you're in shape and know the basic weapon systems. We did a JRTC rotation in late Jan early Feb of this year and it was a joke. Personally, NTC is a little more Afghanistan realistic when it boils down to it. Not to mention a lot more live fire exercises than what we did. I know the brigade that was in Haiti just left here about a month and a half ago. I'm sure 101st will be rotating out here too, since we occupy their battle space. Word on the block is if you stick around long enough, you'll get a school slot. I don't doubt it one bit.
  15. No DMR course? Think you said you were an 11 bang bang, get your EIB and go to sniper school.

Brian is selling his M&P below for a reasonable price. Personally, I'd spend the extra for the M&P. Not to mention, he's got a few goodies to go along with it. I'm a firm believer of .40S&W for defense, wish the Army got on the same bandwagon.
  17. Those modular societies look amazing! If you seriously think the OEM wheels look better, get off the crack rock. Again, amazing job!
  18. Auto Ordanance is still making the M1 Carbines, and I believe Springfield had a run of Garands a while back. But you are correct, these aren't AK47's nor any cheap high capacity "assault" style weapons. An M1 Garand is a damn battle rifle, plain and simple. It's effectiveness went out the door back in the 1950's, along with the M1 Carbine when the M14 was introduced. I guess if we had muskets for sale from the Civil War stored away someplace, they'd ban those too for the same reasons. What sucks is that the public is just now hearing about this. Kinda scares me to think what else these clowns have in store to ruin the 2nd Amendment.
  19. Probably not, even though there's a good number of them.
  20. I'd like to get an official deffinition of "High-Capacity magazines" or "Ammunition clips" as the democrats like to say. I guess 15 rounds is pretty scary of .30cal pistol ammo. Or an 8-round box mag of 30-06 will kill thousands of people in their eyes. If these folks bothered to educate themselves, they would have no soapbox to stand on. I hope those that work for the Brady Campaign cathces fire aswell. If they wanted to truly help stop violence with firearms, they would join sides with the NRA. Can't wait for Ted Nuggent to be president
  21. An M1 Carbine is far from a weapon capable of a large magazine capacity. Not to mention, and M1 Garand!? These people are fucking beyond stupid. These are C&R collector firearms, not to mention the Camp Perry guys would have a hay day over some of them. I think if the US Army were smart, it would "dispose" them to the CMP up at Perry Thank God I'm stocking up right now, I can see things getting worse.
  22. I think it's pretty awesome they would do such a thing. Kudos to whomever had the idea. I don't think they're trying to identify football and combat together, but honoring the era in which the uniforms spawned from.
  23. They might refund my ocean front property in Arizona.
