  1. I have PNC and I have never paid a fee for any of my several accounts with them. These are carryover accounts from National City, but I don't think they have fees on new accounts either. I don't think Chase has any fees as well.

Oh they've got fees. More importantly though; their interest rates suck.

.10% APR equals $0.001 for every dollar compounded annually. You make a dime for ever hundred dollars in their account. Their high end account is .20%.

    5/3 is 0.02%.

    PNC 0.01%

Kemba Financial Credit Union isn't much better, at .12% and .22% respectively.

It's bad enough these :asshat:s pulled of the biggest defrauding of the US people and then paid a pittance for it, but they don't even have the decency to give any account a whole percentage point of interest?

When are we going to wake up to how awful we're being treated as citizens?

  2. I question some of those statistics, but it's good to know that if China comes collecting the sky won't fall down.

The question I have when we people start with "drill baby drill" is what do we do when it's gone and why are we drilling?

I'm not one for damaging massive tracts of our country to preserve the Auto & Oil Industry status quo, for some politicians next term, or to attempt to preserve some golden age that is unfeasible.

  3. beleave u wouldnt say it to where i could here u.. with no head light or tag dont think its meant for the street

Its very simple and the facts are this. Not picking sides either way so...

    1. Bike is built to the hilt if youve seen any of the past threads on here or know him.

    2. Rider is very capable drag racer (Reason you see him drag feet is probably habit from being at the track)

    3. Heading out in shorts and no gear especially on a cool winter day is not a smart decision.

Those are facts without picking sides.

    And he can't spell. :nono:

  4. There are plenty of great choices. Obviously canon and nikon has been mentioned. Pentax is another good choice.

I have a Canon Rebel XS, and I love it but at times hate it. The buttons I need to push to adjust F-Stop and exposure aren't very well explained.

    Two things I'd recommend:

    1. Try out a few different cameras. Which one "feels" best to you? Ignore brand and everything else, except how it feels in your hand, and how the buttons are laid out. Can you make adjustments easily? Etc etc etc. It's a lot like buying a motorcycle, you'll just know.

    2. Go to your local camera/photo shop. If you're in Columbus, I can't say enough good things about Cord Camera. They're great and they really know their stuff.

Get the best package you can afford, and then take photographs of EVERYTHING!

  5. I'm taking my vstrom and some spare gas. I'm not planning for the mad max scenario - I'm thinking Katrina or LA riots. Throw some knobby tires on the strom and I can go cross country or in/around/between the gridlocked cars. If I can't find regular civilization within 1000 miles (the range I could carry gas cans for) then the strom becomes a source of parts for things like a generator/wind turbine/ electrical power to start fires etc.

    I like that idea.

I also like turtles (both normal, teenage, and mutant) and flow charts.

  6. For being upset about these threads degrading into "dick waving" contests; you did a pretty good job of making it happen! Where's the sarcastic thumbs up emoticon.

You are right though, society coalesces and then overcomes, but there are large holes where no law exists for a time. Look at when the Mongols swept through Europe, or the plague, or the fall of the Roman Empire. Whole swaths of Europe had no authority over them.

Whatcha gonna do when someone runs you over on your bicycle and takes your backpack?

That's exactly why I'd be on a bicycle. If I'm relatively exposed and unprotected, I'm going to think twice about where I'm walking. Because it would be relatively easy for me to get run over and have my gear stolen, I'll be working extra hard to make sure it doesn't happen.

  7. It's finally happened, I've seen one to many Mad MAx inspired bug out threads full of crazy vehicles and weapons and all sorts of stuff that will run out of gas and ammo and leave your a** stranded in the middle of mutated cannibal hell.

    Here's my bug out vehicle:

    And maybe this:

I'd have a horse too, but I'm deathly allergic to them, so that's out.

Here are my crazy bug out weapons:

    These x2:

    And this

    And this

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQpZlr1uagEVUaf7khhk4R5ZwsZSXPZ7pME9ZMCoznIzk2_fBcMMg

I might forgo the bow & arrow and stick with the hatchet and knives combo

And here's what I bring with me when I first leave the city:

    kelty-red-cloud-5600-backpack.jpg

It will be full of first aid supplies, a water filtration device, and all the survival articles I can print and laminate. Like how to build a sand filter for water, how to tan leather, maybe how to make solar panels or dirt batteries, etc etc etc. A few blueprints for boats and more bows and arrows, lighters and extra fuel, and then all the MREs and similar foods I can fit in.

I also bring my friends and family with me. The end of civilization is no reason to abandon humanity and basic decency. Working as a group aided us for thousands of years.

    And this guy:

    6570407165_6f710e2a29.jpg

He's been with me for years, knows when to be quiet and when to bark.

    Here's my rationale:

Gasoline and ammo will run out pretty quickly. Eventually everyone will be walking, might as well be resigned to that fact early. A bicycle though, will allow me to move more gear, more quickly, and most importantly, quieter than all you knuckle heads on dirtbikes. It's also incredibly easy to work on and maintain.

The knives, hatchet and bow follow the same thought process. If I don't have a gun, I'm not all Johnny Big Balls rush into danger. I'll stay hidden, stay quiet, and avoid trouble until I have the upper hand.

The group mentality is simple survival. Five people can accomplish more than one. 2 can hunt, 1 can guard, 2 can do site work (gathering food, wood, tanning hides, making clothes, purifying water, cooking).

10 to 15 would be great. Then we could have specialized job assignments, rotating watches, and yet still be able to move fast and light.

If I had a group of 10 or 15, then I'd consider guns. A few larger guns for threat displays and repeating .22s for defense. Lots of ammo, and a well aimed round is a well aimed round. Period. And if I can place 30 rounds near you, and I can carry a few thousand rounds, the odds are in my favor.

I'd also have a topo map, and we'd look for a place with water, and a fairly defensible position. If everyone is headed south, I'd head north. And vice versa. Large crowds are targets, and with civilization collapsing, large crowds breed violence (Superdome in Katrina). I'd avoid them.

You can have your mad max V-8 interceptor, and when I find it's burned out hulk on the road. I'll let you ride bitch on my huffy. If you're still alive, and you don't mind handling a .22.

  8. An ex of mine was a teacher, and two brothers she taught were named Sir and Mister. I was wondering if their younger brother was going to be named Lord.

One of my teachers in high school was telling us that one night a crackhead came in to the ER where his wife worked and went into labor, she wanted to name the kid "the most beautiful name she heard the doctors say." That name:

    Vagina. Seriously.

Thankfully everyone in the delivery room refused to acknowledge that she said that. At least someone loved that child when it was born.

How about La-a. Pronounced La Dash A. Some parents are just F-ing retarded.

What does F Dash Ing mean?

  9. Imprez55 is right, and if OPEN doesn't pass, then they'll keep trying until they get something through as a line item on another bill.

I think it's about time everyone in Washington steps down, and we elect people who are willing to actually LEAD our country in the 21st century.

And if they don't, then it's time we remind Washington, and every level of government, where their power comes from.

  10. So what's the status on the build?

My big boy job took precedence for a bit of time, but I've been able to slowly work out some things.

The tail piece looked okay, and then I found a Suzuki tail light in the $5 bin at Rice Paddy. A few brackets later, I had it in place, and then got crazy with the fiberglass. Again.

I just taped a line off the grab handle, and then started glassing. I like it. I'll trim everything up, and smooth it out with a bit of filler.

I went a different direction with the exhaust, owing to a complete lack of skill, the welding for the undertail exhaust was to difficult. So I convinced the owner to go with an underbike exhaust, ala Buell.

Two welds, with no crazy bends > 4 to 8 welds and a bakers dozen of complicated bends.

I'll get photos of that up soon. I'm really proud of it.

  11. the reason why google etc are against it is they can be sued by the content owners because they linked to a site with their content.

these companies are just using the sopa as a trojan horse to get full control of the internet period. which they've already demonstrated interest in doing by trying to get the FCC to hand over the "net neutrality" rights.

with that they can block you for example from being able to use google. you'd only be able to use their search engine.

or for example if ohio riders was owned by walt disney and time warner is your internet service provider they might not like walt disney and can block it's users from being able to use ohio riders.

I don't think it's written that broadly, and after reading the brief on thomas.loc.gov, an order to "cease & desist" still has to be approved through the court system, and there's a pretty rigorous process in place to help everyone keep on with business as usual, minus illegal activity. There's going to be a tremendous effort on the part of a company to show that a site has caused harm. Especially since many people, view internet exposure as a form of free advertising.

The scary part is this line: "Expands the offense of criminal copyright infringement to include public performances of: (1) copyrighted work by digital transmission"

Sounds like they want to crack down on youtube mashups but:

I'm no lawyer like Star Jones, so I can't say for certain:

  12. I don't normally say this, but Wikipedia has a pretty decent write up on SOPA. (HERE)

From what I can make of it, it's written strictly to prevent access to sites that host or distribute pirated material. Many of the counter arguments seem to be mostly smoke and fear-mongering. I guess both sides DO engage in it.

It does look like a judge has to review the case, which would make me believe it's a civil matter. Which means all those companies that are opposed to it, already have the legal departments to easily deflect any "heat." And with our current judicial system, money equals innocence.

From what I can put together about SOPA: It seems that, companies and the justice department, being unable to target and prosecute sites that host pirated material directly, are now simply cutting those sites physical connection to the internet.
