  1. http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/2535795271.html

Honday 600rr motor that will fit 03-06 frame.. Pulled at 15k, ran good when removed.. Comes Head to pan, no airbox, throttle bodies, wiring harnes, or header included.. Stator and Clutch cover is also not included.. Does have starter.

Valves have been adjusted, and it's ready to go..

Located in columbus, email for pics or to come see it..

Let's leave the obvious ones alone for a second, but if it ran good why did the valves need adjusted and what the hell happened to everything else?!?

And what's with the ominous periods after "come see it.." It's like "come see it.. and then I rape you!" or "come see it.. and then my family will eat you."

  2. Chris Rock had a bit on SNL during the LA riots. This reminds me of it, instead of affecting the people that caused this mess, the rioters merely sunk their areas further into depression.

I think that will be the major difference between elsewhere and America. It won't be a riot, it will be a full out rebellion, with little "mindless violence" and much more concerted effort. Otherwise nothing will change, and the powerful will grow even more powerful and even less accountable.

  3. It's the summer, so the prices are ridiculous right now. Wait until the first snowfall and see how many bikes are tossed on craigslist dirt cheap.

If you are going to sell a bike, wait until the first or second good weekend in the spring. then list it for a thousand more than it's worth and see what happens. Odds are some idiot with a tax return and no brains will give you that amount because he "gots to get me a bike."

Also, put a few "H-D"s somewhere on the bike or say it's a "cafe racer", that puts the price into ludicrous range for some reason!

  4. What do you want to weld? Thickness? Mig is good for thin stuff but in your price range id say you you would probably be stuck with stick. I have a 140 amp mig welder and it would weld 3/8 rod to 5/8 with a bit of work. But that was maxing it out. Now I also have a Miller 252 should have just bought a bigger one from the beginning. Save up and go big if you ever want to weld a lot of thick metal.

Less than 1/8in (mostly gusseting and gas tanks) is most of what I'll be working with.

TwiztedRabbit is hooking me up with his welder this weekend. But thanks for all the ideas and suggestions guys!

  5. if you've got the bike apart and have welding equipment, gusseting the frame may help, and get you your money's worth out of the better suspension bits.

you might also consider going up a tooth or two in the rear to compensate for the fact that you increased from 16" to 17" rims. Not vital, but I think it would make all the difference in the world as far as the butt dyno is concerned. It will FEEL quicker. As long as it doesn't cruise over 7,000 RPM on the highway, I'd keep it that way.

Strangely enough, the 85 ZX600 I pulled the front and rear setup from had 16s as well, as it stands right now, now need for the sprocket upgrade. I'm going to leave that conversion up to the owner of the bike, if he wants to at a later date, that's his decision.

Gusseting the frame is a definite, especially given this fun little bit:

    6004551542_194be9a973_z.jpg

Don't worry, the crack is going to get welded in. Then that section is going to be boxed to give me a little extra piece of mind.

Turns out this bike had been dropped off a tow truck. Like I said, it was rough when I got it

  6. So long story short I am getting rid of my bike and will be with out one for a few months.

About the bike.... 94 ninja ex 500.

Miles..... No freaking clue. The engine I originally bought didn't have 5th and 6th gear. Since a friend had an engine laying around he swapped it out for me. The bike runs great, fires up like a champ every time.

Esthetically speaking you might as well mount an engine to a turd and you get my bike. The girl I bought it off of had dropped it a few times and when I laid it down in some gravel it pretty much finished everything off so it has been a street fighter for a while now. My coolant overflow is a NOS energy drink bottle zip tied to the frame. The exhaust is after market... No idea what it is though. It is loud as hell most of my friends refuse to ride behind me. Just put new tires on it a month ago and haven't ridden much.

I will post pics soon but the best part about this is I am only asking $500. That's $1 a cc. Bike is located in Columbus and I do have the title in hand. This would be a great custom build.

Sad day, I think this means I'm the only one with a water bottle as a coolant overflow.

  7. upgrading from 16" to 17" wheels is worth the hassle on an EX500, but the suspension upgrades might be more than the flimsy frame can handle.

I highly doubt you'll hurt anything, but it may not improve as much as you're hoping.

If you manage to work out an undertail exhaust that looks half-way decent, you could sell a "kit" on www.ex-500.com for big bucks.

If I hadn't sold my EX to fund my track riding, I was planning to slap a circular headlight on it, and rig up some kind of under-body exhaust like the EX650. Just rat the bike out and turn it into a hooligan machine :D

Good luck w/ your build. Lots of parts on ex-500.com too, if you're needing something. Parts for the first generation can be slightly harder to come by, but there are a fair number of them on that site.

Thanks for the info and the idea for the kit. It actually looks a little easier than I first thought it would be, we'll see how it turns out.

  8. The only problem with most 80s sport bikes is their tail sections. They remind me of the original Cylons from Battlestar Galactica, the one's that fell over all the time. Awkward robots with equilibrium problems do not project an image of speed, in my opinion.

I began some rummaging at work, and found some useable body pieces from another EX500, with some bubble gum and duct tape I figured I could pull one whole set of fairings together.

So upgrade 2 was tackling the rear tail section.

A few zips with a jigsaw, and some fiberglass resin later, and I went from this:

    14wqgm1.jpg

    To this:

    6004551998_a744b5a56e_z.jpg

It's a bit hard to tell at this angle, but I cut and narrowed the the sides of the tail to follow the curves that came off the seat section and grab rail. I also shortened the height of the tail section, to give it a bit more upward slant. While I was at it, I glassed the side panels, the grab rail, and the tail piece into one piece. Instead of tabs, screws and rubber grommets holding the tail together, 4 bolts keep it nice and secure. 2 of which hold the grab rail to the frame. It's not going anywhere!

The front fairing was toast, out came the jig saw, a bit of JB Weld to help hold everything together and even more fiberglass. While I was at it, I filled in the turn signal mounting holes as well.

Upgrade #3 is an undertail exhaust, here's my rough idea:

  9. A friend of a friend asked me to build a bike for him. We talked a bit about what he wanted, and I started coming up with ideas.

He wanted a sport bike, no more than 600cc, and it had to have undertail exhaust. He's never ridden before, so I was looking for something easy to control, but not too small to be outgrown easily.

We settled on an EX500, and I got started. I picked one up from a guy I knew, I wish I had some before photos of it (they were deleted: It was rough. It had been dropped off a tow truck at one point, which had wrecked most of the body work.

After talking with my boss, who used to race EX500s, it turns out that the front suspension can be a little squirrely. Upgrade #1 and while I was at it, I wanted to scrap the drum brake setup on the rear wheel.

    6004006579_315163c181_z.jpg

I picked up an early ZX600 Front and Rear setup, and after a few mishaps ordering bearings, The front slipped right into place. After a few hours with the grinder, some cussing, and a bit of prayer. The rear swingarm slipped in as well. Easy Peasy.

    6004005263_2176815849_z.jpg

The EX500 runs 520 chain, and the ZX600 runs 530, but Kawasaki used the exact same hubs on both rear wheels, so the switch back to 520 was a piece of cake.

  10. The dent in the picture looks like it creased the metal, if it did, that's probably best to leave it alone, maybe fill over it with fiberglass and smooth it out.

The scratches look like they just need a decent buffing, and they'll disappear.

You could also try filling the tank with water and freezing it. I don't know all the details, but I know guys have used it for headers, and I've heard of guys doing it for gas tanks.

Heres a little trick for that dent in the pipe. Fill that area with water. Wrap a towel around the dented area only and sit the whole thing outside in freezing weather, or in the freezer if you have one big enough. Ensure the dent is right in the middle of the water slug. In the morning the dent will be gone. I did this on a relatively thick steel Jardine header for my '79 Yamaha and it worked like a charm!

Thanks for the tip, but I don't fully understand the process you described. When water freezes it expands about 10%. Don't i need to seal the ends of the pipe? When the water freezes on the ends it will plug them enough to hold hundreds or even thousands of pounds of pressure. What does wrapping the towel do? The ends should freeze first but the towel is wrapped around the dented area first to insulate it and ensure that part freezes last. Once the ends freeze the water in the middle will be compressed and pressure will rise enough to push the dent out. If the dent is small enough it should push out all the way on the first try. How much water do I fill the pipes? You have to fill the pipe so there is enough water to build pressure - I'd say at least a foot on each side of the dent. Too much and you *could* possibly split the pipe, so don't go all out the first try. Guys do this on 2 stroke expansion chambers all the time. via Superhawk Forum

I'm just worried about that larger dent being a crease, and possibly cracking or tearing when you try to pull it out.

  11. Thanks everyone for the responses!

I work for a welding giant I will see if they have any deals going on. you looking for mig or stick?

I'd like to eventually get a MIG, but I know my budget limits my options pretty heavily. But I'd still be interested to know what's available, and I can start saving up some pennies.

If your needs ( and budget ) change, and you decided you wanted a portable gas powered stick welder / generator, i have one of those for sale.

Thank you, I hope my budget changes soon!

agreed if you decide you want a standard stick welder/ electric let me know i'll let go of mine for $50. i think i have some steel sticks too still i'll toss in and a mask

    PM sent!

  12. I believe that Ohio is constitutionally bound to have a balanced budget. Which is why our current budget woes are relatively minor, barring the political posturing and threats from both sides, compared to a state like California.

Raising tax rates on the wealthy is like carrying water in a collander. Unless you plug the holes, it doesn't work. It plays nice on television if you're going for that class warfare thing that the Left never engages in. But it's all talk, especially since both sides of the debate ARE in that top bracket or are DIRECTLY FUNDED by said bracket. Last time I checked, most of America can't afford the $20,000 a plate dinners that helped fund both presidential campaigns. Politicians may be idiots, but they're smart enough to not bite the hand that feeds them.

Until the bureaucracy changes: nothing will. Ever go to the BMV or Post Office before and after an election? The same shitty people are there doing the same shitty job they've always done. Which is why the promise of "change" is a joke. Since nothing changes at the levels where our government actually executes its decisions, then nothing actually changes.

Instead of solving anything, we just keep doing the same things over and over and over again; wondering why the same things keep happening. The whole thing needs chucked and it's time to try something new. That doesn't involve the Left or the Right or anyone currently in power. They've had their shot and they've failed.

Unfortunately it's our own fault. We've all fallen asleep at the wheel, and now we're paying for it. Instead of taking an active role in our government, asking where the money is being spent and why, demanding accountability, and actually engaging in our civic duties:

We all bitch about how bad things are, and come November vote for the same people year in and year out.

  13. These are a little out of your range, but The Town Trolley is definitely worth the trip.

    Town Trolley

6700 Lima Street, Huntsville, OH 43324

A friend of mine owns it, and I think they still do a really sweet deal on Banana Splits on Sundays. And while you're in the area, you might as well hit up Casano's Pizza in Russels Point.

    I haven't stopped in, but there's Lombardi's on Rt 23:

    6251 South High Street

    Lockbourne, OH 43137

  14. Try eBay.

I know most of the Ohio salvage yards won't have fuel pumps (except maybe Pinwall Cycles in Akron or Cycle R Us in Chippewa Lake).Typically, by the time a bike gets to a salvage yard, the fuel pump is shot, long gone, or the reason the bike went to the salvage yard in the first place.

  15. I dont see anywhere that was mentioned so why would you think it to bring it up. My mistake on your owning / handling of firearms but your comments (even though devils advocate) came across as uninformed and spiteful against firearms owners, especially when you mentioned that Shitty appears to have a hero complex. If you knew him, you would know that he goes out of his way to help everyone, including those he doesnt know being attacked. Too many people in this country sit back and just let bad things happen to the weak and innocent without giving a shit or willingness to step in and help.

The problem I took with your post was directly related to the "matter of fact" type of scenario outcomes you listed as if those were the only possible results. More clarification on your part and a bit more restraint on my part to reply so quickly probably would have helped us both.

Trust me I can respect someone not wanting a gun but as when they try push their ideas like its only their ideas that are correct, then that is complete BS and I will rebuttal with the best of them . No different then the vegans, vegetarians, or environmentalists that annoy the shit out of me when Im working in CA and walking to get lunch. Every one of them try's to stop me on the street and push their ideas on me. I harbor no ill will towards someones ideas or opinions but when you try to push them on others with zero ability to see both sides, or accept others opinions and walk away, thats when I get upset.

Again, the tone of my response was primarily based on your comments and how they "appeared" that you only saw one side of the equation.

And what the hell is with everyone in CA putting avacodo on/in every effing dish or sandwich.. I DONT WANT GODDAMN AVOCADO ON MY SANDWICH!!

No worries. The internet makes it easy for people to overreact and/or misunderstand each other.

  16. All Balls has a steering stem conversion chart on their website. Punch in your bike information, and they'll show you all the bikes that use the same bearings.

Everything you don't need, remove from the bike. Everything you can't remove, drill holes into. Everything you can't drill you probably shouldn't touch anyways.

An aluminum gas tank might help save you a few pounds. If you've got the money to spend, BST makes carbon fiber wheels. They're super light, and you'll get a slight increase in power (due to the reduced rotating mass on the rear wheel).

Let us know how it goes.

  17. My reason is as follows.

I agree, dont draw your firearm unless your life is in danger but at the point you draw, the situation changes and the attacker may retreat which is obviously better then having to fire on them. I have been in this situation before. Firearms can be deterrents but should not be used as if it will actually be a deterrent.

Dorifto seems to think that guns whenever around will automatically kill someone. Oh my god, there is a gun in a locked case in your house, you know guns kill people and you should probably get rid of it before it jumps out of the box, runs through the house and kills everything in site. Its the standard uninformed, ignorant mindset that all anti gun people have and it frustrates me to no end.

I've fired plenty of rounds, have guns in the house as we speak, and my girlfriend just got a 9mm as a gift from her dad. Ignorant, uninformed anti-gun indeed.

It's just as silly to think "Oh thank god, there's a gun in my pocket. As soon as I pull it out, it will make me a tough guy and scare away all the bad guys!"

There's nothing anymore good or evil about a gun than there is about a pencil or a motorcycle.

All I'm saying is if Shitty, or anyone else for that matter, is not ready to pull that trigger, shoot whatever is in front of that gun, and understand the consequences, then don't buy one.

I'd think a well informed person who has chosen not to purchase a gun would be better than a bunch of "uninformed, ignorant...anti gun people." At least they understand why someone would buy a gun, and can respect it.

Of course, you should probably learn to respect why someone wouldn't want to buy a gun either. Otherwise, you end up being the ignorant one.

I disagree with this as blanket statement. Does it happen? Absolutely. But I have been in a few situations where the presence of a handgun actually de-escalated violence. Lucky for me 2 of these included an off duty police officer buddy

That's the best case scenario, and the one I hope happens every time. But I have to understand and be ready for the worst case scenario as well. If I'm not comfortable with one or the other, then I'm not carrying a gun.
