  1. Again, it isn't huge. Here's 72 degrees. You can see where 90 degrees (1/4 turn stock) would be... Can you tell a difference? Again... sure. But to call that a huge difference - especially for street riding as you never were drag racing on a serious level, it isn't going to be an asset nor noticeable. Like I said, moving your hand forward or rotating the housing forward is going to mask it well enough to be minimal... Uploaded with ImageShack.us I don't buy that it is a huge difference. On track, it helps. Slightly, but again... UNLESS you are good at throttle control and use of neutral throttle, it is a waste of money. You could spend more time on getting to be a better rider and gain FAR better results in lap times, reaction times and reducing fatigue than buying a 1/5 throttle...
  2. For the most part, this is true. Essentially, you are picking colors. All pretty equal unless you have the skill set to see the differences.

  4. Just don't see the issue with street riding. 1/4 turn is more than enough. The idea behind a shorter throw is that you don't have to reposition your hand while going from neutral or CT to FT. 1/4 really isn't an issue with drag racing, either... Just position your hand further forward and pull. Pretty simple... I know our drag team guys had shorter throws, but again... Rider ability is going to win out. If a guy has a quicker reaction time than you, 1/5 vs a 1/4 isn't going to make the world of difference. May cover a MINIMAL amount of lack of ability on your part, but not enough to pull a win. Much more than a throttle difference will be the reason. For street, you just aren't pulling the throttle as much. I am leaning towards not buying that reasoning. Again, on the comfort, place the hand further forward. Hell, when we used to ride bikes with a really long pull (Take an ST1100 as an example), we would rotate the throttle housing forward so when pulling, it was the same amount, but the position was more comfy. You could do the same with the stock 1/4 the ZX10 has and accomplish the same thing. That extra little pull isn't enough for you to notice at street pace and cruising speeds...
  5. Don't know about comfort. Can't see how that's an issue in terms of street riding as you aren't CT to FT as often as a track guy, but to each their own. I will say you have the upper hand on longer touring and riding than me so, I will take your word on that. Most others will want to do this mod for the difference in delivery from neutral throttle to FT... At that stage, it isn't huge, but effective.

  7. Uh, huge is based on an opinion. ZX10r.net is like Gixxer.com... I've run a 1/5 and 1/6 on a GSXR that had a pile more HP than what you had. The difference was better for sure. Huge? Not so much. 1/6? Yes... Too much to a degree like I stated. The point is that a lot of guys do these lame mods and the placebo result is they think it is huge. Yes, no need to reposition the hand. Yes, easier to full throttle. However, if you are not a smooth rider, it can take time to adapt. If you want to get better on the gas, get better on the drive out which translate to better corner speed, which translates into better entrance into a corner... Point is that I am willing to bet that a guy with better throttle control can exit and go faster through a corner than a guy with lesser throttle control and a 1/5 or 1/6 throttle tube... Again, huge isn't a descriptor I would use. I'm not going to read what a bunch of Gixxer.com types are saying about it - I can only speak from real world experience. If that upsets you to think that MAYBE someone has more time with these types of changes and can say they are huge in difference, then so be it.
  8. By the way, not to detract from Jeff's post - Free is a WAY better deal than even $9-$15 for a tube. Was just educating folks if this goes to someone quickly and they want a good alternative. 1/5 is suggested for liter bike riders and 1/6 for everything else. Just a bit too much on a liter bike and tougher to get used to. Rewards if you have the patience, but 1/5 is going to be better - you just aren't going to feel a night and day difference...
  9. 1/5 vs 1/4 isn't that huge a difference. Makes a difference, but not huge. You can use a stock R1 tube to get 1/5 throttle turn on a Suzuki. An R6 (06-08 and newer) will net 1/6 (shorter yet). All for about $14. For Suzuki guys at least... Stock everything is 1/4...
  10. First, not carrying insurance is a really stupid idea. All you guys riding around w/o insurance need to understand that if you get into an accident and it is your fault and you hurt someone or damage anything, you're in deep shit. If you do that to me, I will sue the shit out of you and probably force you into bankruptcy. Really, really dumb to risk such things... Then, anyone on here suggesting you don't get insurance is as ignorant as if you decide for yourself. Please don't be a dumb ass. Second, there is a huge difference between the 06/07 R6s and the 08/09s. They changed a lot of things. Doesn't make the 06/07 shit in comparison, but they are certainly very different. Not just BNGs...

  12. If your insurance is that high (Honestly, it isn't much of a difference between the two), you really shouldn't be buying new. Buy an older 600 and you'll be paying less on insurance. However, it is still going to be high from 06 and up and that's due to some crazy shit you've done. My suggestion is to wait or buy used and only carry the minimum. As for info on the R6... It and the newest GSXR600 are top of the heap and pretty much better than 95% of people can handle so, good nuff.
  13. Anfd what kind of SUMO do you have? ;) I mean, hell, look at the Berg I had at CRP. When I use the 350 SXF this year, the difference between those two will be amazing and make the Berg feel like a pig. It's just a difference that is due to the technology advances the MX bikes fall under. The DRZ never developed nor advanced. Everything around it has and did and sent the DRZ from cool to boring pretty quick... Again, DRZ owners will disagree, but if I put them on a stock MX 4 stroke and in the same environment as the DRZ is placed, the MX bike will be better. Maybe not the longer rides since the DRZ has a much more comfy seat, but everything else will be ranked higher when compared...
  14. I've ridden one back when that was the only option before the RMZ came along. It was full race prep. not sure what your setup is, but this was full MX Tech suspension and everything. Just too heavy and too bulky. When the RMZ came along, the DRZ was dropped like a Pinto transmission... Have you ridden a properly setup MX bike transformed into a SUMO? If so, you'll note the weight difference, the suspension limitations, etc. Again, not to bash the DRZ, but the deal is pretty simple - even on paper and fully modded motors, the DRZs have nothing when placed against a mild built 450 or larger MX based machine... Suspension and weight are two of the most extreme differences. Width, wheelbase and motor are the next issues. Essentially all fall short if ridden hard. Again, great entry level bikes.
  15. I think the open air comment is true when riding a long period of time. Even a small fairing above the headlight helps tremendously. But, he added the seating position and the CC size. All things combined make it a tough choice as an everyday commuter unless within an urban setting. Ride a DRZ or motard on a freeway or boring road (As you pointed out - welcome to Ohio) and you'll be wishing for something better. It's pretty easy to argue that a motard isn't that great a choice vs say even the bike listed on your sig...
  16. Are there better bikes than the 610? Sure. For multiple reasons of course. But, overall, a pretty cool machine. Better than the DRZ... You don't have to race to find that certain bikes fall short. It's pretty simple and with numerous bikes ridden, you'd find that out quickly - casual riding or pushing the bike at a track. You don't have to be race mode to tell... You could have stated you should have used a smily a lot sooner and a lot of this would have been glossed over. In the end, nothing was ever stated dumb towards the comments about the DRZ. Sure, DRZ owners are going to be offended or upset, but guess what? There isn't a perfect bike and if you think you know of one, there are others that are better at certain things. So far, the "perfect bike" has yet to be made - hence the reason there are so many choices.
  17. Again, where was anything stated that was dumb or wrong? Enjoying one's self is great and I even have clearly stated that they are great entry level bikes. Nothing wrong with enjoying one's self, but if you are being perfectly honest and your buddies DO ride bikes like a 450 SXF or similar, they know and so do you, that the DRZ is a bike that falls short to those machines... Not being a bike snob. Guy wants a motard and he is asking about a DRZ. Not the best nor top choice for the money he is willing to spend. Nothing snobby at all. And, if you are saying motors blow on the DRZ, how can you say they are a great choice then?

Again, DRZ is a GREAT entry level bike, but for $5k, you can find a KILLER motored that is better, more agile, lighter and more powerful and above all, more fun. What do I know? The people I hang with have shit trades like the one I pictured above. That Mitch Hansen sucks and the people he builds for and supports suck, too...

  21. DRZs are turds. Buy a proper motard and go that route. DRZs are cheap, heavy and not suited for performance riding. Anyone who disagrees has never ridden a real motored to have as a comparison. That being said, financing isn't a bad thing. I usually go with the low rates where they offer 1 year or 6 months low or zero interest. Then, I pay it off. Don't use liquid assets especially if you are buying a new home, etc. Having available cash is a lot of times needed for pop up situations that occur with owning a home. Why take $5k cash from a savings or checking to buy a bike? Sure, you can pay for it, but use that low % rate and allow that $5k of yours to sit in an investment fund that will net a higher % return. Then, once the low % rate expires on the loan, THEN pay it off... People think you need to have $5k cash to buy something like a bike. Not so - check the rates. If buying used or something that doesn't offer low rates? Sure! Check out used supermotos. I think if you have $4500-$5k to spend and want a bike, there's a SHIT load better choices. If your heart is solely hooked on a motard, there are MANY, MANY better choices than a DRZ. DRZs are great entry level bikes, but as stated, you'll be bored out of your mind soon after...

  23. I meant like at the 1:35 mark... Guy is just sitting there on the side of the road as the Lotus is coming through. I also like at the :38ish mark where the bikes are following the car and cross the yellow also... It happens on both sides of the fence. Bike guys are magically brilliant just because they have a helmet on and on two wheels.
  24. I think it is cool people are yelling at these guys for lane crossing, but at the same time, it is also causing danger doing it. Meaning, the people are yelling, on the edge of the road and even having bikes sitting on the edge of the oncoming lane watching is a distraction. Doesn't matter if they are in a cage or a bike - most people are going to look up or draw attention away from what they should be doing and have issue. I can also guarantee that there were more than enough motorcycle guys crossing lanes also. It isn't like cage people are somewhat dumber than motorcyclist. It's the same stupid people doing the same thing. Just some on bikes and some in cars...
