  1. This is the way I would do it as well. I want a $500 bike with no more than $500 in basic mods. Brake lines, springs, and maybe a GSXR shock (which I have read is a very simple swap). Then slap a belly pan on it, and a flat-track style number plate (or maybe a $30 upper someone else has crashed beyond use) and just ride for as little as possible. No expensive tires or anything like that. Home-made rearset brackets to bring up the stock pegs, and just go. If I could street the same bike in a pinch, that's a bonus. My next step would be to grab a parts bike and just open it up to learn all I can.
  2. Doesn't sound like the tip switch to me. That kills power to the fuel pump, so there would be no "hum" before thumbing the starter, and the bike would crank but not start.
  3. I know the 130hp claim wasn't yours. I was referencing your claim that the zx6 feels stronger than your Honda.
  4. And has that additional horsepower made you any faster? I suspect not. Maybe eventually, but 20 hp doesn't immediately translate into faster laps. Horsepower is an obstacle to riding at a pace your brain can cope with. Handling and feel are king at the track. My friend Jeff went from a 1000rr to an r6 and dropped several seconds at every track. The 600 is just easier to ride without making a mistake. That inspires confidence and faster laps.
  5. Stands will go with the bike. I have the side stand in my garage, but I lost the bolts for it. The front stand has a steering head lift attachment too.
  6. Thanks nick! This pic shows: The duct tape on the tail The zip-tie "stitching" on the side of the upper fairing Any white/blue spots on the bike are places I sanded during repairs but never bothered repainting. The one near the seat is where my boot rubs. The guage cluster face is cracked, but it's still easy to read. The lower fairing has "BROWNS" and "Ron Paul REVOLUTION" stickers on it. The white striping on the fender, tank, tail, and lower is actually reflective vinyl tape. It peals off easily. There is probably $200-$300 worth of work you COULD do to the bike to make it really nice, I just preferred to buy seat time instead.
  7. if the paint job is that off-putting to a serious buyer, I'll sand it and rattle-can the bike a solid color in exchange for a deposit. I'm not looking to charge anyone for a paint job, but I also don't want to spend a full weekend sanding and spraying and then have them back out of buying. I've had a couple PM's about the bike, and I need to take more recent pictures, but to be blunt, it works great but looks pretty rough. Craig, Brandon, Matt, Matt, John, Nick, and anyone else who was at Nelson last month can give unbiased opinions on the condition of my bike. I'm not trying to hide anything, but I know I'm partial to the 'ole girl
  8. probably just another one of my pipe-dream ideas that will never materialize, but if I can sell my 600RR, I might be able to afford a street/track EX250 to buzz around on. I am not aware of anyone on this board who tracks a 250, but i know there was a decent crowd at the last MotoSeries event I attended. My main concern is, "is it any fun to wring the piss out of a bike and only hit 95mph?" Do those guys run warmers, or could I do without them? How long could I stretch tires? etc. etc. Is it even safe to run practice or trackdays with 30hp when others on the track have between 70 and 170? I just anticipate exiting the carousel in 5th gear on a 250, and being totally pinned through the kink.
  9. bump. price is negotiable, but I'd prefer people see the bike before low-balling me.
  10. mine is for sale here. I believe it's listed at $3100, but I'm flexible on that. PM me. It's a great bike, I just can't afford to ride it right now. I raced it last month at Nelson, and the only thing wrong with it was the nut between the seat and the bars.
  11. I can't believe that bike made it all the way to the keyhole without needing a push. He could barely make it out of pit lane when I saw him.
  12. Born in America. Doesnt count. They should have Obama race there! (kidding. Not trying to make it political)
  13. ...so the guy bought what he refers to as "the perfect track car," and then kept it covered in a garage? Anything actually used on the track gets dinged up. Big deal. It adds character.
  14. I'm struggling to see what's international about BeaveRun now that it's changed ownership. Are they hosting any international events? Are they doing more "European Motorcycle Days?" Did they at least hire a European guy to work the gate or something???
  15. If I ever own a Harley, it will either be an XR1200, or possibly some variant of the V-Rod. In either case, I'm going to wear full leathers and a full-face helmet at all times. If any "bikers" give me shit about it, I'm just going to give them a limp-wristed wave and say "oh be nice!" in my best queermosexual voice, and then tell them that "Harleys are SUPER! I love how it vibrates my bum!" Then get the hell out of there ASAP, hopefully with enough time to give a miss-America wave with my left hand after the 1-2 up-shift.
  16. I don't want to be an asshole who rips wheelies on the highway in a t-shirt and then runs from the cops, but that doesn't dissuade me from riding a sport bike. Don't let a few guys with beards and no sleeves ruin the XR1200 for you. Ride one, and let the bike ruin itself for you! (i keed, i keed.)
  17. after watching them zip around the autocross area at Mid-Ohio today, I'd tend to agree. The turbo just adds numbers to a spec sheet, and fucks with the gas mileage. I've actually driven 2 S2000's and while they ride a bit harsh, I like them. The biggest thing to look for is the engine change from the early models. I think they only made it 1 or 2 years with the true 2.0 (thus the 2000) engine. That put out 240hp at something stupid like 8,000 RPM, so you had to rev the piss out of it to get any kind of power. Which is fine on the track, but less user-friendly around town. They quickly changed to a 2.2 liter engine that actually makes less power (i think), but produced better useable torque. That's probably the better car for 90% of the world. Why, exactly, are you looking for a $12,500 "toy" car when you have owned several bikes that are faster, cheaper, and arguably more fun? (sorry... I get it, but then I don't get it. I can't personally rationalize "toy" cars unless I'm without a bike)
  18. if anyone is there tomorrow (or tonight), my buddy Mike is on the smurf-blue 600RR with a black lower. He's pitted toward the end of the pit-lane, across from the gap in the garages. I know he's got more beer than he can drink by himself tonight. Really nice guy. He refers to me as "radz" but should know who you're talking about if you tell him you know Chris from OhioRiders.net
  19. There was an R6 that crashed early in advanced (banged up knee, but his bike looked pretty good. clip-on, some controls, and a dented but useable tank. Sub-frame looked tweaked though) Then there was Joe's old bike (the black GSX-R 600 with white and red trim) which had pretty much every body panel broken, and at least left-side controls gone. I saw him gridding up with the Novice group early in the day, and recognized the RXion Racing decals from the owner before Joe. I've loaded and unloaded that bike numerous times. And the R1 (blue, 2005-2007 generation) I didn't get a good look at, but the wind-screen was smashed as if it had flipped. He was in Intermediate. I saw him go out for the session a little late. I'm wondering if it was a cold-tire crash, while he was chasing someone who was alreayd up to speed that session (pure speculation on my part)
  20. ^ ha. I can't believe somebody beat me to the info in my post above. I liked this thread better when we were bitching about cruiser riders instead of picking on each other... (some of whom are cruiser riders, I might point out)
  21. you got the second part right, but alcohol does not increase your body temperature, it just thins your blood and draws your veins closer to the surface of your skin so you FEEL warmer. I understand that I'm splitting hairs here, but the effect in the cold can be deadly. You feel warmer, but you're really just allowing the cold air to get at your blood more easily, thus dropping your body temp much more quickly. (that's all I have to contribute that would not be construed as "Harley bashing." ) Aaron Borello was riding an XR1200 at Mid-Ohio today, trying to learn the track so he can qualify for the AMA round in a few weeks. That was pretty boss.
  22. great weather today. Actually a bit chilly, if anything. I was shivering with the breeze. Probably wouldn't have been if I'd had leathers on though. Whoever bought Grapesmuggler's old bike wadded it up pretty good. I saw the bike come back, but not the rider. No ambulances rolled, so I assume any injuries were relatively minor, but the bike looked a little rugged up... Then again, they all do when they're on the crash truck.
  23. They also allow someone with only 4 days under their belt sign up in advanced. ;-)
  24. The 33/31 I posted was also direct from a Dunlop vendor. I wrote it in my toolbox because I got sick of forgetting and having to ask. Lower pressures might be better under certain track and weather conditions, but I never got below 28. Not on purpose at least...
  25. I have no particular allegiance to Honda, but this doesn't even make sense.
