I suppose he might not have noticed the helicopter until AFTER ditching the bike. Highway wind doesn't let you hear too much. Now if they had a spotlight on him... I think there's a lot of people who have just seen one too many YouTube videos where the bike gets away. Personally, I've also watched enough where they wreck trying to run. Between the safety risks, and the fact that I can't afford a ticket, I'm looking into track days... Where do you columbus folks ride? I'm not opposed to trecking to mid-Ohio. Do you have to take race courses and safety wire the whole bike? **edit** - or i could just read the thread about getting into track days... consider my question answered.

For all you columbus riders, where any of you stuck at a light on the Sawmill exit off 270 Sunday afternoon? around 5:00. There were two bikes in front of me and the light was long enough for them to put down kick stands and stretch a good bit. A 1000 (i assume, based on the dual under-seat cans) and something else I didn't get a good look at because the car in front of me was blocking my view. just curious if that was anyone here.

I like the symetrical look as well, and the under-tail pipes seem like a no-brainer to me if it's purely for cosmetics. Frankly I can't believe it didn't happen a lot sooner. Maybe there's some aero reason for it when it comes to racing too, but I don't know. I've never had the pleasure of riding something equipped with an under the seat pipe. Is there any noticeable difference in temperature? what do passengers have to say about it? I assume that's one of those things engineers would address, but there have been bigger oversights before...

you always hear rumors about cops not chasing bikes because it's too dangerous, but I've never had the guts to test that theory... Plus on a 500, i'm very much within the top speed range of a highway patrol car...

it looks great, but what mechanical changes have been made? I've only ridden a 250 cc dirt bike. What's the top speed like on something that size with 6 gears?

I wonder what they can actually be charged with... being funny? I'm not familiar with Australian law, but I don't think it's illegal (in the USA) to put a canadian flag on your car or dress in white w/ a fake beard. If the guys on bikes were dressed as cops, THAT would be illegal.

proper introductions: name: Chris location: Live on the west side of Cleveland. Work south of the city (at 480 and 77) age/sex: 24 male bike: '97 Kawasaki EX-500 with 9,000 miles on it now. I'm the third owner that I know of. i've been riding for a couple years. the EX is my first bike. I wouldn't say I'm a "novice" rider, but I'm hardly an expert. I think a fair assessment is that I know my (and the 500's) limits and approach them cautiously, with hopes of expanding them slowly. Call that a 'novice' mentality if you will. I prefer to think of it as responsible. That said, I can't resist red-lining the bike on entrance ramps... which I admit is significantly less wild on a 500 than a 600. Maybe I'll afford a ZZR600 next summer.
