Since Friday, the Medina and Wooster Posts of the Ohio State Highway Patrol have been investigating four fatal crashes that claimed the lives of five people. Daniel Jordan, 39, of Orville, and his wife, Brenda Jordan, 40, were thrown from their motorcycle after it was stuck by a car on Route 57 on Saturday. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other motorcyclists were killed Friday in separate crashes in Medina County. John Melchior, 49, of Parma, was involved in a high-speed chase with police that ended when he crashed head-on into an SUV on Route 42. Troopers said Melvyn Rager, 49, of Marshallville, was killed when he lost control and went left of center and hit a truck on Hartman Road in Wadsworth. They said alcohol was not a factor in any of the crashes. Lt. J.M. Swindell, commander of the Medina post, along with troopers want to remind motorists of three key safety messages that can help reduce motorcycle crashes. Get trained (including knowing what proper safety gear to wear)/get licensed Stay sober. Alcohol and operating any type of motor vehicle do not mix. Other drivers be aware of motorcycles."If we all do our part and share the road safely we can help in reducing some of these very preventable tragedies," Swindell said. While the state has seen a decrease in motorcycle fatalities this year, the deadly weekend is a way to remind the public of the importance of motorcycle safety and sharing the road safely.
