Sense is like riced out android. I dont like the HTC apps, some of the widgets are kind of cool, but that's about it. I cant find any proof, but Sense is more resource strenuous. Back when I ran sense on my G1, which doesnt come close to what phones have now so it was more noticeable, it would slow the phone down a lot, you actually had to partition your SD and use one partition for extra memory just to run sense. Rosie.apk (sense) is constantly running on top of android. Cyanogen has been making custom roms for android phones since the G1 days, moved on to the N1 and now he makes a rom for just about any android phone. He makes improvements to everything he can in the source code, and includes every setting imaginable for your phone. He swears by vanilla android, and that alone should be a reason to ditch Sense...unless you really like.

Bummer. On Motorola's site, it says "CLIQ XT (USA) Upgrade to Android 2.1 - testing in process". Looks like it will get it OTA soon enough.

On a side note, I just tried to load an app we are testing on a Samsung Captivate (at&t galaxy s) and At&t has blocked it from allowing installation of non-market apps. Fucking.Gay....it also has a weird way of connecting to a computer, bunch of extra bullshit steps, quite confusing. I'm quite turned off by it now. You can still ADB it...

That's how you read it cause that's what you wanted to hear The study was on females only I believe. The different versions isnt the problem. The problem is that HTC, Motorola and Samsung all put their own twist on Android (HTC Sense, motoBlur, etc). So when google rolls out a software update, those companies have to then go and update their OS, and that takes time. That's the benefit/problem with open source. Google does want to put a stop to it come 3.0. But apps are just java programs that run on android, 99% of the time any app will run on any android phone as long as it's v1.5 or later, which I dont think there is an android phone that doesnt have an update for 1.6 or greater. From a developer's stand point, hardware is the biggest hurdle, more so screen size and resolution, but android has a built in feature that automatically adjusts for screen size and resolution, and you can of course code for it as well and include high, medium and low res images if you want, or just use high and it will scale it down. Yes, that's the point. You know why it's on 40 phones? Cause it can be, and therefor it will sell more. See how that works? Your posts are always so informative and a valuable contribution. But that's exactly the problem with the iphone/apple. Steve Jobs and his cocky attitude, where he wants people to adapt to his products, instead of the product adapting to you. A co-worker just got the Galaxy S on AT&T and its nice, beautiful screen, and samsung didnt change the OS too much from vanilla android. I bought my brother the X and its too big for me, and I dont care for motoblur but I can dig the phone for what it is. I still love my N1 the best.
