Where do I even begin with the clusterfuck of misinformation. What exactly is this "fail" you speak of with the S4 aftermarket? S4 drivetrain is solid, and has been proven to hold well over 1000hp many times, not to mention the S4 motor and drivetrain has been used very successfully in racing (factory audi teams, 2bennet,etc) in basically stock form. Front end will die? Chances are, his motor wont blow up unless its really being pushed to its limits. Please tell me how this is different than the almighty LS motor? I bet that LSX with its "100 hit" every weekend blows up before his s4 motor does. I've never heard of the heads being a problem ever, people will swap them out for 2.8 or RS4 heads simply because they flow a bit better. Read the OP's requirements from a car, THEN you will know why he chose that over other cars. Oh and comparing your 1.8t gti to an S4, and therefor claiming to be all knowledgeable about vw/audi's, is a fucking joke. God forbid anyone ever buy anything but a mustang or lsx, or realize that there are other things that make a car great besides how fast it can go in the 1/4. True, but unfortunately for me, I cant use tax payer's money. I am very aware of why, but perhaps we need to improve our lives here on earth before we try to make it possible to shoot rockets from the moon so that we can mine iron from mars, and eventually have a wonderful oxygen free, freezing cold life there. The US isnt exactly in great shape right now, so spending an assload of money on this right now is probably not the best thing to do.

S4 should have came with that motor. But I still like the 2.7, just not enough room in there for bigger turbos.

On a related note...not that its something I would do but... Turbo VR6 swap into an S4 = win.

You might be able to keep up with a 60trim... My clutch is fine, it just wont take hard launches, but neither can failwheeldrive.

I'm guessing youre not too worried about the condition of the turbos if you are wanting to replace them anyway, but... Listen for turbo wine, ease of getting the car into gear, especially 2nd and 3rd. Check for oil and coolant leaks. Valve covers and timing covers are common, and the auxiliary coolant pump is also known to start leaking. You will see dried coolant running down the back of the trans, it causes coolant to leak right into the valley and drain out the back of the motor onto the trans. I would also check the rear diff to make sure no leaks there, but thats not very common. Look for torn CV boots, listen for bad wheel bearings... Pretty standard stuff really.
