If you can't do 100 miles on your bike in a single stretch; sell the thing. I've posted this on the forum before, my Buddy Dave does trips west each year with me on his R6 and has done many 1,000 mile days and almost always does 3 or 4 700+ days in a row. And he's 45 years old. If he can do it, younger guiys should be able to do it with no problem. Never heard him bitch at all about beign sore or anything. I do loads of long trips each year, granted I'm on a ST1100 sports tourer, but 700 mile days are pretty much the norm if you want to get outta the midwest. Have also done loads of 300-400 mile days on one of my Ducs and never had a problem with them at all. Their seating position if worse than the R6 by quite a bit. Just get used to it, get the sand outta your vag and ride!!!

If nothing else pops up, maybe I'll do Indy to Kentucky to West Virginia to Ohio - the long route to Columbus from Indy.

I saw that and you're right; I should. But I need some serious seat time on a bike before my trip in May. Have yet to ride at all this year and don't want my first ride to be a two week long tour. I need to make sure my hip / leg don't have any issues on a bike for an extended period of time.

Assuming the weather doesn't really suck, I'm gonna take a 2-3 day trip to somewhere over Easter Weekend. The wife will be working in California all week and I don't wanna sit at home bored. Probably head to Tennessee, North Carolina and Northern Georgia. Or someplace else that has good riding if I can think of anywhere. Ozarks maybe? If anyone wants to come along, gimme a yell.

Here's an extremely rough itinerary, no plans on this trip other than to be in Gateway, Colorado on July 4th & 5th - the rest is wide open. Thursday, July 2 Leave Indy Overnight in Kansas City, MO Hotel: Hampton Inn – free 483 miles ( from Indy) Friday, July 3 Black Hawk, Colorado area 638 miles Casino hotel - $100 per night – FREE BOOZE! Saturday, July 4 Gateway, Colorado Gateway Resort $250 per night (!) but worth it 260 miles Sunday July 5 Gateway Resort Hang out, Jeep tour to Moab, eat, drink, swim No miles – day off of the bikes Monday, July 6 Torrey, Utah Torrey Days Inn $55 per night Ride around Grand Staircase Nat’l Monument 300 miles +/- Tuesday, July 7 Ouray, Colorado Ouray Chalet Inn - $90 per night 350 miles Wednesday, July 8 Breckenridge, Colorado Hotel TBA 320 miles Thursday, July 9 Breckenridge, Colorado Ride Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park, Mount Evans, etc 200 miles +/- Friday, July 10 Salina, Kansas Hampton Inn – FREE 526 miles Saturday, July 11 Home Indy – 657 miles Sunday, July 12 Can add an extra day somewhere during the week or just get home a day early.

Dunno why I'm calling this "Trip West II" as it'll happen before "Trip West I", but I digress... I'll be heading to Colorado and Utah areas during this one week trip and we have room for a couple more bikers if anyone wants to come along. My friend Brad (VFR800) and I will be heading west to meet up with my wife at Gateway, Colorado. Hope to be there by July 4th. Stay for a couple of days and then take our time coming back through the Rockies. Portions of this trip will visit the same places we'll be going on the Trip West I - and we'll go some places that will be different. No set itinerary for the trip yet other than the first couple of days at Gateway. The pacof this trip will be a bit faster -Speed Touring,if you will. Highway speeds will be near 90 mph of the time two lane roads 20 slower,So a capable bike would be required. Might be a few longer days in the saddle as well - expect two or three 700+ mile days. Now that I've painted such a rosy picture, anyone wanna come along?

I'll snag ya something if they have anything worth getting. We'll be two up on a bike, so won't have a ton of extra room. But certainly enough for a tee-shirt.

I could give it a go. Friend has a CNC bender that I can use, Are you able to send me exact measurements of the pieces? I'll check to make sure that my buddy has the right sized mandrel - be surprised if he didn't.

Got all of you beat.... I remember the first calculator I ever saw - in my 7th grade math class. All of the kids in the class got to add a few numbers on it and that was it. No LCD or LED numbers, this thing had wires that glowed. Could barely make out what the number was supposed to be unless you squinted your eyes. Didn't see another one for several years after that. I graduated from college before the PC was invented. Or at least long before I ever saw one. Our only computer class required us to use punch cards and card readers to program. When I first started riding, none of the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer's offered a motocross bike. We had to make ours from enduro type bikes. Drum brakes, no suspension and evil handling bastards. Either made you a man or killed you.

What's the swing on your Dad's lathe? I always have projects that require a bigger lathe than mine.

I'll do the spacer free of charge - would it be easier to make two spacers; one for each side - with a tube in between them? I hate like shit to bore something that's 241mm long as it's a pain in the butt. I'll also do the caliper hanging bracket free of charge. My lathe isn't big enough to handle the wheel, but my friend has one big enough. I'll ask him if I can use it. Probably flip him $25 or so for the use of his equipment.

I'll make the spacers for you - no problem. Just give me the dimensions you need. How much do you need taken off of the wheel? I'll assume it's part of the hub that you need taken off?

I hit this one at about 75 mph. Hit me in the shoulder and spun my ass around in the saddle. Thought for sure my bike was seriously fucked up, but it never hit the bike at all - just me. I had a distinct weight and velocity advantage over Tom. He never knew what hit him....

But apparently learning to ride doesn't. Proper safety gear doesn't save lives either. The guy has a point; I wouldn't want three weeks of this crap in a town I lived in. Especially if it was a smaller town where the bikers take over so many of the facilities and streets. If you ride aggresively, wheelie all over town, have loud pipes, do burnouts, etc., then you can't really bitch about people getting pissed off about you. I'm no angel, but I don't whine when people bitch about bikers as I can see where they're coming from.

Most 10mm bolts are 1.25 pitch (considered "fine") on Japanese bikes. The typical pitch on a 10mm is 1.50. 8mm are usually 1.00 pitch 6mm are usually .80 pitch Get yourself a pitch gauge - they're really inexpenive and save you a lot of grief.
