    Evaporust

Evaporust, has anyone used this product to remove tank rust? most auto parts store carry it. ive looked at strip and seal products(kreem, POR15,etc) and im hesitant to use one... the directions say to fill tank and let it sit for an hour, turn sit an hour, etc until results are acheived. which brings us to the real problem. the tank cap seal is old and fucked. ive searched and called many shops online and around town and theyve all told me im sol. so does anyone have any suggestions on where i could obtain some fuel grade rubber or something to make one? its about 1/2" thick and about 3" in diameter. on another note i would have just taken it to a radiator shop and had them dip it or what ever they do to strip the tank inside and out, but the prev owner put a sweet factory paint job on the tank, fender and side covers and its soo well done i dont want to fuck it up. finals are in 2 weeks, by then the tank will be done, i'll reinstall the radiator and a few other components and i'll finally be cruising! ...a season later....
  2. boots are good, floats were right on. we tested the r/r from idle to about 4000rpm still wasnt within the specs listed  12.2v at 2000rpms was the highest it got... i'll update when i get further along
  3. well i spent the weekend with my dad and cleaned the carbs yet again... replaced all the fuel hose, filiter and fittings, with new ones, shoved a small funnel in the end of the fuel hose put some gas in it and fired right up!!! didnt even have to choke it we also went through the cooling system and found out the rad fan is fucked, whoever installed it put the weep hole facing up... also the thermostatic switch, that controls the fan, is also done... after letting it run for 5-10 mins also found out the rectifier/regulator isnt really working, only 12.2v at 2k rpms i still need to take both the main and reserve fuel tank and clean and seal them prolly gonna use POR15, recommended by many here. i left the key in the bike at my dads though  gonna go through the boxes of parts i have in my garage and hopefully get it all put back together once finals are over. then take it and gets some tags and be cruisin

  9. 1983 Honda Shadow VT750C - v-twin bought it last season not complete. bought parts and put together, except main fuel tank. new fuel pump, misc cables, brakets, etc got running. even rode it down the street rinsed the main tank out several times with fresh gas to remove any residue, until gas came out clear. installed main tank and now it doesnt run. has spark, backfires through intake and exhaust. carbs get gummed up. since then ive cleaned the tank and carbs about 4 times. with the same results. compression is similar in both cylinders. dont remember what it was but it was about 10-15psi lower than specs. i assumed it was this low since it hadent been run for several years. when it does run for a few mins with throttle at the sweet spot, front cylinder gets hot like operating temp and the rear is cold like its not running. rear plugs are also wet... suggestions? spring is almost here!! thanks

  14. ok i bought a motorcycle off of ebay and recieved a title for it. when i picked up the bike the guy i bought it on ebay off of had the title from the previous ower. no prob whatever. after getting the bike put back together and ready to ride i put it in the back of a truck and drove it to the title place. come to find out the prev owner messed up signing her name, she signed where the purchaser was to sign and then scratched it out and signed on the proper line. they told me to have her get another title... he has been unable to get a hold of her. im not sure what to do. i was told that i can simply take the bike to the highway patrol and they will run the vin on the frame and the engine and anything else that has any serial number or whatever and will give you a title for the bike. unless anything comes back stolen, then you have to surrender anything thats hot. i ve also heard about a service that will get you a title for $165, http://www.its-titles.com/ this is just one there are many others that offer and require pretty much the same thing. i checked them out and they look legit. somebody point me in the right direction! thanks john
  15. i dropped my first bike twice... once at a stop sign which was kind of in a swail, i was too short to reach the ground and down it went. the second, another stop sign only this was on gravel, foot slid and bike went down. only the gravel drop caused minor scuffs on the clutch cover. sold my second bike before i dropped it, i really couldnt reach the ground on it, leaned over real far when stopped. i can touch with both feet with my current bike, which is still under construction, hope to have it on the road this weekend!!
  16. yep still for sale, i will be out of town this weekend and the early part of next week, i will be home after wednesday

  18. just got back from akron, so the bike is in columbus now. just filled up for less than 15 bucks @ 45mpg! shoot me a pm and we can setup a time to meet. thanks,
  19. there is a hole in the tank, where you put the gas in, and i saw it. its very minor and there is already a prepump fuel filter. ive rinsed it with gas a few times and it looks much better, it was very dry and powdery when i touched it, so since rinsing it all that has been removed and clean fuel comes out when i rinse it. do i need to clean it out better? should i replace the filter more? i read up on the acid/seal method and i would get the kit and do it myself rather than pay someone to do it.
  20. i got my 83 750 shadow running today and went to mount the fuel tank and found that there is some very minor rust inside... any suggestions? thanks,
  21. i removed them because i didnt like them. carb question answered. thanks again for all the compliments!! i love the dark red w/ black, since ive owned it ive never seen the same color scheme. im leaving tomorrow and bringing one of my bikes to columbus. so if there are any interested buyers let me know asap, just send a pm.
