A Harrod man is dead after his motorcycle collided with a deer Saturday night. 67 year old Thomas Helser was riding his motorcycle on Peeve Road, when a deer ran across the roadway from an adjacent field, into his path. Helser was unable to avoid the collision, and upon impact was ejected from the motorcycle. The Lafayette emergency squad transported Helser to Lima Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the accident, and Helser was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Ohio Department of Public Safety reports there have been over six hundred motorcycle fatalities this year an increase from last year by about 63 deaths. Sgt. Rick Sanchez with the state patrol says the highway patrol post in Lima is working toward reversing those numbers. The Ohio traffic safety office and motorcycle Ohio are working together to lower all motorcycle accidents and fatalities by implementing various programs RIP fellow rider
