Any decent automotive paint store will have the gizmo to scan an old part and match it. I am really surprised the body shop you talked to didn't say that and say they would handle it.

Color Rite matches are really a gamble. I have had better luck with these folks. And the sell pints and quarts.

But a good jobber can scan it in a heartbeat.

I agree but it is what it is. I've read some color rite stories and definitely want to stay away from that.

So then keep searching for a body shop that'll be able to give me the code? Is there any resource online to cross-reference?

  2. I'm trying to figure out the PPG color code for fresh paint on my 07 Yamaha R6 tank. I'm going back to the OE charcoal gray which from the parts fiche and color-rite is:

    OE Color Code: DBNM8
Color-Rite Color Code: 0919 - Dark Bluish Gray Metallic 8

The auto body shop where I work can paint with PPG codes no problem but they do not have color match capabilities (if I bring in bodywork) and the places that can color match around here will only give the code if I buy the paint too.

Any advice or resources to help on this topic?

Appreciate it. Might make finding some a little easier.

03-04 confirmed, 05 bodywork with the exception of the front fender will swap too.

05 had a different front end with inverted forks vs traditional which is why it has a different fender.

On my daytona? From what I read I flick the start switch? (Hows that work with the starter motor?) I'm not entirely sure how to use it and I kind of want something more accurate and hands free. I know I'll forget to hit that coming over the start/finish more often than not.

The starter just freewheels if the motor is running, there's no damage if you hit the starter switch after the engine is running but it's definitely not as reliable/accurate as a GPS or IR based add-on.

He coulda did had google pay him for that pixel commercial.

I got a plain photo with the gifv vs gif. ctrl-v remnant?

Gifv is html5 based so it loads faster and doesn't use as much cpu resources to load vs a gif file. It's the future.

Some browsers/phones treat it as a video though and you might have to click on the image to get it to play.

  6. Here's what I wrote a couple months ago about my experience with the 20S.

I've been using this daily for the past year or so on the commute to the office and it works wonderfully. This quickly connects to my phone with no fuss for BT audio or I can just tell the nice lady (voice commands) to switch to FM radio and it'll auto switch to the last preset I was on. FM quality is great, there is definitely a noticeable increase in quality if you route the wire for the ear pieces over the top of the crown instead of around the neck roll. The stereo audio quality is good, not really any bass or anything but if you're looking for bass these have an easily accessible port to plug in your headphones. I prefer the ease of just putting on my helmet and having music ready to ride vs fiddling with headphones. This can get very loud and even at around 50% volume it's still plenty of punch to hear audio over my full race exhaust.

I've ridden in rain before with no issues. Granted this was southern California so it was more of a light mist compared to a Midwest rain, but regardless there were no ill effects from it getting visibly wet.

The app to control the device is a huge win for me. It's so easy to link it up to the app on the phone, update some presets or settings on the fly, and keep riding.

Comms between two devices is easy to setup and very clear between rider and passenger even over my excessively loud exhaust.  The music sharing is a cool feature where we can both listen to the same thing or jam to our own tunes.

This lasts for about 1.5-3 weeks until I need to get it on the charger and charges quickly.

I never thought I needed or even wanted a communication device until I got the 20S. Now I can't ride without it.

And an update - Normally I don't get on the freeway much so most of my phone calls are city speed, but recently I had my first phone call on the freeway at speed (~75mph) and the person on the other end couldn't even tell I was riding. They didn't hear any wind noise and crystal clear audio on their end as well as mine. Their only indication that something was different was my voice undulating when going over bumps.

Cool show,  makes me appreciate the company a bit more.. but also wonder how they got so far away from their roots of being innovative, race-bred, go-anywhere machines. I'll watch the 3rd one tonight either way.

Just to point out that this show definitely takes its own creative liberties and I wouldn't take anything from this show as fact. This was not signed off by Harley-Davidson. Oddly enough, Budweiser is the official partner for this mini-series, not Harley-Davidson.

Having said that, I am all for this show. If it gets more people interested in two-wheels and into the market, I'm all for it. Who cares if it's a little off in the history or timeline? As long as it helps get new people into dealerships to move bikes whether it's H-D, Indian, Euro or Japanese, it's a win for all of us.

How old is this laptop that it only has a 20gig drive?

Pretty new actually.  The logic behind a hdd that small is with all the streaming and online cloud storage services (GDocs), there is little need for a large local hdd which allows them to set an attractive price for a laptop in the $100-200 range. 20Gb is plenty for the basic young adult pc.

Not what I was told. Or I would of broke the led light bar lens covers and sent back. They were miss advertised and don't fit. I will still probably pay to send back and recover part of my lose back.

Just a guess, but you probably didn't actually buy from Amazon then but a dealer that sells on Amazon which is very common especially with auto and powersports industry parts.

  12. Checking in here with an event you guys need to add to the bucket list. I recently attended The Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel, California, just outside of Monterey and nearby Laguna Seca. This isn't your average bike show and I definitely recommend if you ever are able to align this event with a trip to northern California in the middle of May next year, do it. The amount of classic, cool, collector bikes was amazing with over 400 bikes on display ranging from pre-1916 to modern Arch motorcycles (co-founded by Keanu Reeves who was also in attendance) and that's not including the number of bikes that rode to the event. Catered lunch and free ice cream are included in the cost and wine country is a short drive away. A really great atmosphere. There are rides available that offer laps around Laguna Seca and through the picture perfect Monterey peninsula countryside.

This is an event that you can bring your wife to without her asking when you can leave.
