    ~29800 miles
    -Clean Title in hand

    Why this is the perfect motorcycle
    V-Twin power. Unlike 4-cylinder sportbikes, this bike has a very wide power band which makes it easy to ride and provide plenty of torque and power at a wider range of RPMs. Also, the sound of a rumbling V-twin, especially with the M4 exhaust, is one of the most pleasing things about owning this bike. The riding position on this bike is much more forgiving than other sportbikes out there, especially with the Heli risers.

    Barely worn front and rear Dunlop tires
    Few Modifications, most done by the previous owner.
    Incredible Sounding M4 Exhaust
    Power Commander III USB Aftermarket FI controller
    Frame Sliders
    Tank scratch protector and side grips
    Flush mounted turn signals
    Rear Fender eliminator
    Brand New foot shifter
    DC power outlet added in front fender for charging phones, GPS, etc.
    Heli bar risers for a more comfortable riding position. (old bars included)
    Only ~5k miles on new chain and sprockets
    Service Manual

    Have only dropped it twice. Both when not moving.
    -Minor scratches on right tail
    -Some scrapes on exhaust
    -Passenger seat has obvious wear.

    Maintenance
    I've changed the oil every season and cleaned the chain.
    Air filter changed last year

    This is my first bike and I have been the owner for the last 8 years.

  4. Preferred External HDD Auto-Backup Programs

    You're my favorite group of nerds and wanted to get some input on my setup. I'm sorry most of you are freezing.

     

    Anyways, I'm creating a layered backup system and the last step I'm trying to solve is an off-site backup of my files. 

     

    Currently I have my files saved to a raid-1 NAS setup with an external hdd attached to the server station that backups those files every night.  

     

    For you asset management, network guys, what do you use for your off-site backup? This isn't a huge corporate business thing, just about 4-6Tb of storage with potential to grow to 8Tb. I'm just thinking an external hdd attached to another computer (mac/pc - still undecided) using some automated program. Would that work or is it more complicated than I'm imagining? 

     

    Would mac automator work, or time machine, or are their programs better suited? If I hook it up to PC what's the optimal solution for that os? 

     

    Do you recommend daily or weekly backups for this off-site hard drive?

    The BMW dealers here in socal have a demo program that should be the same program available nationwide. I was able to ride one for a few weeks because BMW is a client of ours, so while I can't guarantee they'll let you ride it that long, you should at least be allowed to demo a few hours of riding.

    I was able to ride the XR for a few weeks and really enjoyed that bike. I loved being able to make a (small) grocery run, pack up the panniers and still be able to do wheelies on the way home. The one I rode has the ShiftAssist option which allows clutchless up and down shifts. The shifting was buttery smooth up and down even over the neutral jump between 1/2. I pretty much spent most of my time holding throttle and tapping the shift lever up and down. That's a feature that is one of those that you don't really need but sure is nice to have. 

     

    The ergonomics were nice in riding position, it was odd at first going from my tight, tiny R6 onto this big wide XR with panniers but it's an easy ride. The only problem I had was my feet absolutely could not touch the ground (30" inseam) even with the suspension mode all the way soft so if you're on the shorter side you'll just have to put a little more weight on a foot when stopped. No big deal really, just another thing to get used to. 

     

    The riding modes are pretty neat, I think I stayed in the normal "road" or "street" mode but started out in rain as that slows the throttle rate way down since I wasn't used to what kind of power this thing would put out. Even though it's a detuned S1000RR engine it still rips enough to put a smile on your face and get the front wheel off the ground with a flick of the wrist. 

     

    Definitely recommend at least demo'ing one of these from your local BMW dealer.

    Thanks!  Yea, I'll be working at Acorn Woods Communications based in Huntington Beach. They specialize in marketing for the motorsports industry, so I'll be working with companies such as AIMExpo, Long Beach BMW Motorcycles, Schuberth, MotoQuest, and the Why We Ride film just to name a few.

    Well even though I'm not even in Ohio anymore, I've stayed connected to OR through both my personal account and my time with Riders Discount.  But, I'm turning the chapter and will be moving to Huntington Beach in California in about two weeks to pursue a new opportunity marketing within the motorsports industry.  I'm really excited (and nervous) about this move and can't wait to see what's in store!  

     

    I'll check in from time to time and definitely can't wait to read about your long winter while I'm on the beach.

    In hindsight, I was probably a little too patient with him and should have passed him sooner but this was the first session out after I crashed that morning and was taking it easy.
