  1. I just plead no contest. The judge knocked it down to 20$ for the ticket and left the speed as 90. Freaking 80$ in court costs though, so I still wrote a 100$ check. He still saved me 110$ though, which was nice.

I didn't really feel like making the 3 hour trip down to Lancaster in the middle of summer just to fight a speeding ticket that I had little chance of getting around.

Luckily, my insurance hasn't picked up on it yet. I think that's a little present that I'll let em stumble upon on their own... (The bitch is, I got the packet from Progressive for my new policy that's auto-renewing next month. Payments went down to 114 from 139, and I have a ticket coming off in October that would have sent them down even further *weep*)

  2. I just moved back home to Stow (right next to Kent) from OSU a week or so ago and havn't had a chance to do any real riding yet. I'm up for a ride, but my schedule is really erratic. I'll make it if my work schedule permits :\

  3. I've run into this problem on several occasions. I dunno if it's in my head or if I've actually found a way to trigger the lights in my area more effectively, but recently I've begun blipping the throttle several times while sitting directly over the sensor line. Seems to get the lights to change faster. Maybe they just changed the sensitivity of the sensors in my area while I was down on campus though.

  4. Stay away from negative website schmuckgirl.

Lifes too short to get tripped about by what can happen. It will ruin your fun in riding.

Yeah, to hell with consequences

But yeah, that dude's foot is freaking purple. That's it, I'm buying some riding boots.

  5. They just need to make more snowable bikes and then Ohio will see the influx.

I dunno about that. I figure that by the time gas is so expensive that the typical American driver puts down the cell phone and breakfast burrito and gets on a bike or scooter, we Ohio's climate will be similar to that of Nevada.

  6. being paced at 90? damn - you must have been asleep too!

+1 for showing up to court, get it postponed a few times and then borrow your dad's nicest suit and tie to throw yourself at the mercy of the court

Yeah I pretty much was. Long empty road, clear skies, the drone of the eng*zzzzzz* oops, sorry. Actually I'm not surprised I didn't see him behind me; the mirrors on my bike are all but worthless. I've gotta move my elbows in about 4 or 5 inches to see anything behind me. Sneaky bastard X-(

I would try to get it postponed and stuff, but I'm moving back home for the summer the day after my court date, and start back to work 2 days after that. I don't really have time to ride the 3ish hours down to Lancaster just for the small chance of a no-show or something. I think I'll just try to get it knocked down somehow. Like I said, I really doubt I was doing 90. You've actually gotta give the throttle a good twist to hit 90 on my bike, and the engine vibrations are very noticable at that speed. I would have CERTAINLY noticed if I was hauling that much ass. I think 80 or even 85 would be more realistic. Maybe cite the fact that a lot of japenese sportbikes have innacurate speedometers or something (try it; get a GPS and check your speed. Ninja 650's speedos all overshoot your speed by about 10%, so my 90 would have read 99 to me, which is a speed I just do not cruise at).

Sadly, this is my second offense. My first one was about 30 months ago in my moms '94 Explorer, doing 50 in a 35 (that truck truely does have an innacurate speedo. My dad got the optional rim upgrade when they bought the truck and the dealership never calibrated the speedometer for the larger diameter wheels/tires). As far as dressing nicely...I doubt I could pull off riding down to Lancaster in a suit :p I don't have a car :\ I could wear a ton of OSU stuff and hope the judge is a huge Buckeye fan...or maybe give him my tickets for next years games...

  7. How does one go about getting a ticket reduced? I doubt they just go "oh you showed up, take 20 bucks offa that". Do you dispute the speed or what?

Now that I've had time to sit and cool off, i really don't mind this thing that much. I messed up; should have been paying attention to both my speed and my surroundings. The 130$ fine is ok with me; it's my insurance that really gets me. I don't know how high it's going to go, but it won't be pretty. I'll probably end up lowering my coverage some to try to keep it comparable to what I have currently.

  8. and he's 25mph over though. How come he doesn't have to show? Oh, what is IRC?

IRC = i recall correctly. So he's saying 'if i recall correctly'.

I don't mind going to court really. My biggest question is does a ticket get dismissed if the cop doesn't show up. I'm thinking that because A) it's 9 AM on a friday and B) he gave me the option to go to court or not, he might not be planning on actually going. The date is june 6th; the friday of my exam week and I have a whole empty day to kill. May as well go and hope for the best.

  9. :villagers::cry:

Went down for a ride around Nelsonville and on my way back on 33 I got nailed for 90 in a 65. Fantastic.

I want to call bullshit on the speed; I NEVER cruise at 90 as it reads 100 on my speedo and tripe digits just don't feel right while cruising. I usually cruise at a bit over 80, but its not like that's much difference. He caught me by pacing me and not with radar, so I'll never know... At least he was a nice guy; didn't hassle me and even complimented my bike some.

Regardless, it's 130$. Court is optional; I can just mail them a check. Should I bother going to court? I don't know anything at all about how this stuff works; my last ticket was 3 years ago (SO CLOSE to having a clean record...just a few more months to go until now :'() and I just mailed them a check. If I go to court and the officer doesn't show, do I pay anything? If I do go and he shows, do I just pay the 130 or are there extra court fees and other goodies? If it's a chance at not paying anything with worst case being me having to pay the 130, I may as well go to court and try my luck.

Oh joy I cannot wait to see how high my insurance will go now. I'm already paying 139/month for mediocre coverage.

Anyway, rant over. Just felt like venting somewhere.

  10. PS thats the route i posted earlier with the google map link. great ride IMO.

That map is what tipped of off to that road. I figured "Hey, it looks good from space, so why not try it?" :p I think I'll take 800 and will try a separate route another time for the whole of 78. If I could figure out how to properly integrate Google Maps, Google Earth, and Tyre (software that uses Google Maps to make itinerary files for TomTom GPS's), I'd post the routes I've made.

  11. Just to keep this thread way off topic:

Has anyone ridden route 800 north out of Woodsfield? I'm playing around with my GPS setting up several 300 mile-ish routes, and I want to give Rt 26 from Williamstown to Woodsfield a shot. Is 800 any good, or should I take 78 west to Caldwell then 77N to 70W instead of 800 to 70W? I don't mind if 800 is terribly exciting or not, just not a torn up gravelly road like 555 seems to be from other replies.

  12. I started using the handle "Harbinger67" in online games way back in early high school just because I thought it was a cool word, and the regulars I played with started calling me Harb. It just stuck and I use Harb or Harb67 for pretty much all my online accounts and stuff. The name Harb in and of itself has no meaning, I'm just used to using it.

    Not very interesting, I know.

  13. uhh, your gonna have to fill me in on that. I grew up in Berlin/Ellsworth and I know of no Amish. and the roads suck. We usually head down RT 9 towards Carrolton from Salem.

...really? I passed at least 10 buggies that day, and half the staff at Heini's and the diner we stopped at were Amish. Not to mention the buggy dealership I saw. Yes, a buggy dealership. It even had "Buy, sell, trade" on the sign out front.

  14. You could try Amish country out by Berlin, OH. There's some killer roads out that'a way. Lot of deer though, so be careful.

I was just there this past weekend, actually. A friend and I went to Heini's cheese factory two-up. Decent ride, but a bit far. If I'm going to ride that far for the sake of good riding roads, I may as well go down to Logan.

Plus, I hate the thought of getting horse poo flung up onto my undertail :beathorse:. Silly amish.

  15. Greetings! I'm new rider and new here too.

I'm still at OSU for the next few weeks, but I'll be heading home to Stow soon, which is about 10 or 15 minutes from Akron. Lemmie know if you wanna get a northeast Ohio ride together sometime.

  16. Yeah that blue 650 is mine.

I knew there had to be something wrong with OSU...and here it is I guess. Hardly any good riding. I'm not looking for any crazy twisties or anything, just something to keep me entertained when it's the middle of the week and I feel like getting out on the bike. Even a 30 minute ride out of town is fine; I just get sick of the traffic and stoplights around here. Some nice suburban sprawl would be very welcome at times.

  17. Thanks for all the welcomes!

And yeah, OSU has the Buckeye Motorcycle Club, though there hasn't been too terribly much happening with us this season.

I've seen those guys at Taco Bell...and every time, I got vibes that it was pretty much a town hall meeting for douchebags. Nice to know that I was right on the money with that, heh.

  18. I know this isn't an event or meeting, but this seemed like the best place to post it. Feel free to delete/move as needed.

Can anyone recommend some good places to ride near Columbus? I love riding out in Hocking Hills and other areas in Ohio, but I don't always have time to ride an hour just to get to good roads, ride for a few hours, then ride another hour back home. Sometimes I just want to take an hour or two and get on the bike and have some fun, but I really don't know where to go. So far the best I've seen is Sunbury Road north of Morse. I usually fire up Google Earth and my GPS to try to find interesting tarmac, but so far I've come up empty.

    Thanks!

  19. Hey everyone. Just signed up a few days ago...finally got around to actually reading and posting some stuff. A member of the motorcycle club here on campus at OSU referred me to the site.

I'm a relatively new rider; bought my first bike last July. I absolutely love my 650, couldn't have made a better choice for my first bike. I do most of my 'sport' riding in the Metro park systems when I'm at home in Stow, and down around Hocking Hills when I'm on campus. I'm always looking for more places to ride, especially around Columbus.

Anyway, just saying hi. See ya out there, ride safe.
