this from the guy who totaled both a 500 and a 650 in the same year... I started on an 800 cc cruiser for a first bike, and honestly I think it made me a better rider for when I got the 600 sportbike. I have confidence, and less fear from being forced to take it slowly into turns and curves... I see a definite improvement in my abilities over the past few years... and of course I have over 20 thousand miles on the cruiser and close to 2 on the sportbike as experience... I would suggest you find a bike you are comfortable with to start out and keep for a few years, then work up as you gain confidence and experience. And, go out every time you can with other riders to gain experience from them. As they say "f- it let's ride!"

And back again... I can see why some of you guys don't like going LONG distances on the sportbikes, even with the long cushy seat of the kat, my neck, shoulders, wrists, ass, and lower back are sore as hell.... not to mention freezing my knees after the temp dropped around 1030p... but all in all an enjoyable ride, I went down the back way thru wilmington on 68 and 50 to 133 then over to 32 and to my dad's place in amelia... came back 71... cause I didn't feel like wrecking on a state rd in the f-n dark looking forward to putting more miles on the black beauty.. but for an outta state trip I think I'm gonna have to say the fiddy is where the comfort lies... I could ride that all day and still be fine...it's a bitch having 2 bikes and choosing which one to ride
