bacchus
So, I'm going to be packing up the kids and heading to Charlotte for a few days in 3 weeks to visit my folks (not taking the 900 - boo) I was thinking I would head out from there to a fun family activity for a couple more days, but I've never done the Myrtle/HH thing. Anybody have other ideas for activities in VA/NC/SC? If I do the Myrtle/HH thing, where should I stay and how much should I expect to spend? Charter a boat for some fishing? Al Z. Heimer
http://www.visitmyrtlebeach.com/?cid=g_destination_mbhttps://family.go.com/travel/vacations/virginia/williamsburg/http://www.hiltonheadisland.org/see-and-do/Plenty to do in Myrtle. Va.Beach-Williamsburg area has a lot also but is a bit more crowded IMO. Hilton Head will prolly not make he kids happy depending on their age. Laid back kinda place. Good for old farts like me. If I was that far down I would hit up the Myrtle area somewhere. As far as cheap all I can say is to search and book lodging early. That is gonna be the big hit. JohnG
Myrtle is cool, but I've never been during season. You realize we just came back from a week there, right? About all we did was wander the shops and eat seafood. Barefoot Landing has a bunch of interesting shops in a condensed area. We stayed at a condo on the beach this time and it was nice to get up at sunrise and walk the beach first thing everyday. Water was cold so there was only one day we could swim. Anyway, find the local eateries. Better food and cheaper. Good Fellas in North Myrtle is one such... Charter a half day fishing trip - in shore versus off shore, if you think sea sickness could be a problem. Gonna run you a couple hundo, but if you like fishing it's good here. In 2011 we used Mark Stacey http://www.oceanislefishingcharters.com/charter_info.cfm I try not to overplan on vacations, so I don't have a lot of suggestions for you other than that. Do your research on line.
bacchus
No, I didn't know that - we will be leaving Columbus early Saturday, spending a few days in Charlotte, then off to Myrtle in the morning, a day of fun, spend night, another day of fun and back to Charlotte, another day or two and come back to Columbus. Whew - that's going to be enough, I think
max power
I like the topsail area. Not as touristy and cheaper than outer banks without the trashy-ness of myrtle beach.
oldschoolsdime92
We always stayed at Lakewood campground in myrtle. Some of my best vacation memory's came from there.
