Gump
Supposed to start in 2015. This will only force natural gas prices to increase for Americans. Just like our petroleum demand decreased in America yet prices increased. Electric is also on the rise in Ohio due to grid improvements. John
the report by the Bipartisan Policy Center that said there are ample supplies of natural gas to meet demand without a significant price increase. they argue that prices drive exports, not the other way around. http://bipartisanpolicy.org/library/report/new-dynamics-us-natural-gas-market
Gump
Sure. It also means people being solicited to sell their mineral rights or royalties or partial royalties should tell the solicitors to pound salt.

Prices will go up. I'll check this in 2 years. When local electric companies can't get coal because Asia outbid them, they pay more the next time. serpentracer
if you guys didn't finally realize what sets prices is market speculators. that's why gasoline is so expensive and that's what will eventually make natural gas expensive. and if you didn't already know, most electric companies now use natural gas instead of coal. so when natural gas prices sky rocket so some wall street asshole can get rich, you'll be paying more for electric also. we can have everyone living comfortably with their wage they make. it's a nice way to control all you middle class scum. drc32-0
and if you didn't already know, most electric companies now use natural gas instead of coal. Coal is still king, and will be for some time yet.The vast majority of power houses are still coal fired.A few relatively small gas plants are coming on line, and others are proposed, but it will be years before gas passes coal as the main fuel for generation. Gump
I heard it's more difficult to use gas as well. All leads to higher costs.
magley64
I use Fuel Oil, NG is cheaper right now, and more convenient...
Gump
More difficult to produce "electric" from gas than it is coal.

The success/failure of utility companies is not in control of the companies leadership, but instead the EPA and politicians.
DAC
The switch to natural gas is not a decision made in the best financial interests of the utility companies. The success/failure of utility companies is not in control of the companies leadership, but instead the EPA and politicians.I'm not an EPA hater but there is truth in this. Without environmental mandates, coal would fuel 90% of the electricity generation with NatGas fueling some spike need generation.

serpentracer
they said natural gas is cheaper than coal. that's the reason why. remember when the coal miners were blamming obama that they were being laid off? that's when this story came out. they're finding large deposits of natural gas in the states. I believe they said we are the saudi arabia of natural gas Edited July 28, 2013 by serpentracer
DAC
I think gas is cheaper to BURN than coal. Most older coal fired gennies getting shut down due to new regs.Funny thing is, I have read that if you add carbon sequestration costs into the picture, WIND becomes cost competitive.
