Wyocrawler Posted January 7, 2014 Report Share Posted January 7, 2014 So I wanted a pair of 41L panniers and racks for the uly and didn't want to spend the money. After a little research I built my own with the help of a friend. Starting on the racks. I used 1/2 inch pipe and store bought bends. Scrape flat stock was used to make the mounts. Now on to the boxes. I don't have the setup to work with aluminum, but I have a friend who doses and offered to help. Now for mounting hardware. When it warms up I'm gonna sand them down again an coat the inside of the boxes with rustoliam clear. Although I haven't test packed everything yet, I believe I can get everything in and under lock and key. I really hate to have stuff strapped on everywhere. It's kind of an OCD thing. It folds forward on to the seat, strait up for a sissy bar or back as a rack. As for a sleeping bag I use down and it fits in the panniersTiny. Sweet! The bar going down and forward connects to a mounting point for factory racks that is behind the passenger peg. I used all the factory mounting points.
