Winter project. Panniers for the Uly

Recommended Posts

So I wanted a pair of 41L panniers and racks for the uly and didn't want to spend the money. After a little research I built my own with the help of a friend. Posted ImagePosted Image

Starting on the racks. I used 1/2 inch pipe and store bought bends. Scrape flat stock was used to make the mounts. Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Now on to the boxes. I don't have the setup to work with aluminum, but I have a friend who doses and offered to help. Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Now for mounting hardware. I found some ploy tie rod bushings and used these to make the pannier mounts. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/07/4eseny5e.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/07/qapytava.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/07/raryra9a.jpg

And done. When it warms up I'm gonna sand them down again an coat the inside of the boxes with rustoliam clear. Other than that ready to camp. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/07/y6aquzyp.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/07/ve6ysaqa.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/07/6u9a6egu.jpg

Thanks guys. Now it's time for 2 of my favorite things. Riding and camping! Although I haven't test packed everything yet, I believe I can get everything in and under lock and key. I really hate to have stuff strapped on everywhere. It's kind of an OCD thing.

Hey redkow97, it's a uly so it acutely has a sissy bar. Posted Image

They called it a triple tail. It folds forward on to the seat, strait up for a sissy bar or back as a rack.

As for a sleeping bag I use down and it fits in the panniersPosted Image

Tiny. Sweet!

No, no bar connected to the swing arm. The bar going down and forward connects to a mounting point for factory racks that is behind the passenger peg. I used all the factory mounting points.

phew, i was a little worried there.  Linking the tail and swingarm would make for a very harsh ride.
