DIY garage door opener mod

Tools:

Extra garage door remote

Soldering iron

Monetary push button switch (has to be push button not toggle)

12 or 14 gauge wire

Dremel or in my case HF brand Dremel :-)

3M tape or epoxy.

The balls to drill into a $100 piece of plastic.

Reasoning for the mod: got tired of leaving my garage door opener in my car when I needed it for the bike & the opposite. I could have secured it on the outside of the bike but if it rained I'd run the risk of getting water in the remote.

Then you'd have it banging around as you ride. I'm a no keychain kinda guy. I like my top triple. :)

I was, too, until I left my key in the bike by accident.   Now I use one of these:

So that if I forget my key, someone is sure to see it, and steal the bike!

(It's a "Remove Before Flight" keychain)

A guy on the FZ6 forum posted a similar mod, but he tied the wires to his turn signal. That way there's no extra drilling. The opener gets triggered on every left turn, but it's intermittent and he said he ran for years and never needed to change the battery.

See, that way you don't need to have balls.

Nice write up. Someday I'll do this.

It is a plastic housing on the opener so there is no scratching. It is pretty small to so you can just throw it in your pocket.

i dont like anything more on my keychain then i already have + thats just more bulk then I need in my pocket of my pants or in my coat. And it only cost me $10 - but yeah either way will work, just a matter of preference thou I guess lol
