GixxerTravis
So I bought a new (used) bike and it has these stupid spike bolts on EVERYTHING!! How do I remove these stubborn bastards as a socket won't get on them and a 15mm open ended wrench only will get on a couple
Bubba
Deep-well socket won't reach?
GixxerTravis
Not a problem reaching them, it's the way they're built, I suppose.

Chrome
Vice grips ftw. Google it if you don't know what they are. If you still can't do it you need to take it to someone. Nothing worse than snapping one off with the threads in.
GixxerTravis
For the side plastics, they are ridiculous!!!!
GixxerTravis
I tried vicegrips but the bolts are too sunk in... Let me upload a picture
Gixxus Christ!
Yeah do that. If they're what I think they are you're gonna need a deep well thin wall socket.

ReconRat
If a deep well socket won't fit, sometimes I wrap aluminum foil around the nut or bolt to force a good fit.But sounds like mostly clearance problems around the outside of your sockets.Need some really thin wall sockets.... ReconRat
is there an echo in here?Yes, I second your opinion. Some of the old style sockets were really thin wall. They look easy to break, but are old school sockets. When crap was made in the USA and would never break? Gixxus Christ!
If you can't find a thin enough wall socket you can always buy a cheapo from autozone, use a 6" extension and spin it on a bench grinder to relieve the sides...assuming you own a bench grinder. Josh1234
Those spikes can be dangerous!
Tpoppa
For the side plastics, they are ridiculous!!!!By any chance are these in those little rubber fairing fasteners with the brass inserts? If loctite was used on the brass inserts, you pretty much need to destroy the fastener to remove it. Ask me how I know
