JustinNck1
I have the long way round, long way down, and race to Dakar books. Getting ready to read them this winter. I read "The man who would stop at nothing". Great book about iron butt riding. Edited November 2, 2015 by JustinNck1
BadTrainDriver
Motocat12, or any other columbus local riders; I have the complete set of Sam Manicom motorcycle travel books, and will gladly loan them out. I dare say, I like his writing style better than Ted Simon (I also have all of his books). PM me if you'd like to borrow anything.http://www.sam-manicom.com/books/#.VjdP-Mso7JA Edited November 2, 2015 by BadTrainDriver
BadTrainDriver
I have the long way round, long way down, and race to Dakar books. Getting ready to read them this winter. I read "The man who would stop at nothing". Great book about iron butt riding.I had the pleasure of meeting John Ryan, I sold him a motorcycle helmet one cold winter day as he was riding through Columbus. I had no idea who he was at the time, but found out over lunch at Polaris. He gave me a signed copy of his book, then walked out and threw his old helmet in the trash. It was about four years old/250,000 miles of use, he said. I was sad to hear of his death a while back, but at least he died doing what he loved. bloodninja420
Something you can read for free are ride reports by a guy named Antihero on ADVRider. He rode a 1199 Panigale across the US, and he's currently on an open-ended trip around Europe on the same bike. His writing is a mix of ride reporting and metaphysical musings, rarely boring.Makes you feel like a puss for feeling sore after 8 hour jaunts to SE Ohio. motociclista
Another one I enjoyed is the classic "Obsessions Die Hard" by Ed Culberson, though I think it's getting harder to find. He did the adventure-touring thing before adventure-touring became a thing. A few good books on travel in the U.S...Roadshow by Neal Peart,Purple Mountains by Notch Miyake and The Ride So Far by Lance Oliver. On a local not...Lance Oliver's book has the most accurate description of riding 555 that I have ever read. Thanks, DRC. I'm honored to be mentioned in any of the company on this thread, and probably not worthy.

Got about 10 pages into it, then had to go riding! Seems pretty interesting, very well written. May finish it tonight.
