Guest Spyder550
It's difficult to describe what it is, but it's not really a kit car. Although they can be had as a kit, nearly all are built and manufactured in low volume by Chuck Beck Motorsports in California. Mine was built by Beck. See www.chuckbeckmotorsports.com for more info... And now for more than you'd ever want to know: The engine is based on a VW Type I air-cooled flat four of 1915cc displacement custom built for Chuck Beck's cars. It has twin Weber 44 IDF carbs. Power is 130HP/130TQ. It's historically correctly mid-mounted (not rear-mounted like VW chassis based replicas) and connected to a four speed gearbox and 3.88:1 rear axle. The frame is a tubular ladder frame matching the original Porsche design with torsion bar rear and VW Type I front suspension. The whole thing weighs only 1200 lbs , so please don't hit me... Detailed engine specs: http://chuckbeckmotorsports.com/1915cc.html I probably should have some engine pics up here, too.

SpaceGhost
I have seen a bunch of that type of car this weekend in Elkhart Lake(Road America) at the vintage race. I look at cars in a whole diferent way now. Here are a couple of ferraris that you will not see but once in your life if you are in the right place at the right time. Keep in mind these cars go around the track! The first one is called a 1960 Type 60, most came with a 4 cyclinder engine but 3 were made with a 12 cyclinder engine. This is one of the 3!(Cost=priceless). Here is the type 60. http://www.columbusdiscgolf.com/images/100_0556.jpg http://www.columbusdiscgolf.com/images/100_0555.jpg The second is the 1963 12 cyclinder Ferrari 250 GTO. Cost=2-3 million. http://www.columbusdiscgolf.com/images/100_0539.jpg http://www.columbusdiscgolf.com/images/100_0540.jpg http://www.columbusdiscgolf.com/images/100_0541.jpg [ 20. SpaceGhost
I recomend if you like to see old cars race the vintage race in Elkhart lake every summer is where to be! $80 for three days gets you in and in the paddock to actually touch these machines! Notice no Velvet Ropes!

Guest Tony_K
The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is coming soon, and it's much closer. Mid-Ohio VGP was a few weeks ago - also a fantastic event. For a top-shelf Concours, head slightly North of Detroit to the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance and Historic Races. You'll see some of the cars from Monterey/Pebble Beach. graemlins/thumb.gif
