BDHG940
I want to get rid of the cheap lookin plastic by-pass vavle and go with something better. Let me know if anyone has any links of where to look and for the best prices.
Trouble Maker
What does it look like? Here's a link to a place up in Akron called ECS Tuning. They carry different bypass valves for Audi's (or whatever, this just happens to be what the Audi/VW guys use). I ordered and need to put on two of the Stock TT valves (710N's). They are supposed to be very robust, the diaphragms in the stock ones like to tear. They also have a forged one that is self-serviceable, but there are people running very fast, reliably with the 710N, and it's ALOT cheaper. IIRC per the articles below the 710N has quicker transients, not super important if you’re an auto and/or belt driven super charger, but could effect a manual turbo drastically. That probably won’t matter as much to you at any rate. People also say you have to service the forged ones, grease them up every once in a while. Here are two articles with some good, quantitative and qualitative, info about the different valves. http://www.s4biturbo.com/art-dvtests.shtml http://www.s4biturbo.com/art-dvtests2.shtml Don’t know if this is the ‘style’ you need or not, but hope it helps you a little bit. BDHG940
Very nice, thanks for the links and the information. I always thought that the turbo cars had a different valve used than the centrifical superchargers. Anyways I'll give them a call, and thanks. Razorback
My stock plastic POS Bosch 103 bypass valve that came w/ the Vortech didn't have enough capacity for my boost levels (apparently Vortech rates the stock plastic one up to, but not exceeding 10psi). So as a result of my boost levels I was popping the discharge tube off the car when letting off the throttle at redline (happened on the dyno once as well as on the street). So anyway, the fix for this was to upgrade this stock valve with the Bosch 114 which is metal internal and much stronger as well as faster reacting. We also added a SECOND bypass valve for added room to grow with regard to boost, and this second valve was also a Bosch 114 valve. I also upgraded the boost side connections to T-Clamps, but that was probably unnecessary, but I'm glad I did it. Anyway, the link to the valves I'm using is here: http://www.greedspeed.com/products/prod_details.aspx?prod_id=1694&app=148&app_desc=2003-2004%20Audi%20A4%20Cabrio%201.8T&cat= I'm very pleased with these. Hope this helps.
