burgels
Just try unscrewing the knob and if it isn't stuck to the boot you should be ok on that, and most aftermarket knobs aren't threaded, they have three adjustment screws on the side that you have to tighten to get them to fit, unless you buy a car specific one. Skinner
also if the factory shift knob is not screwed on it will be glued on. I know its that way for some GM cars at least.
Guest DagoRcR
Yea i pretty sure its not just screwed on, So if it is by glue, what would be the best way to go at it without breaking anything.

Make extra sure before trying anything. I know the F-Body shift knobs are threaded on, and the aftermarket knobs thread on also. If it's glued on, use some elbow grease and start cranking on it to break the glue seal. Once you get it off, remove any remaining glue and install the new one. Tinman
Be sure to check for a backup nut, it would be just below the knob. It locks down the knob to keep it from backing off and allows it to be indexed in any direction. If you find one simply thread it further down the shifter and the knob will easily spin off. Guest DagoRcR
Ah! I think that may be it. Theres a *lump* that feels alot like a nut located in the upper 3/4 of the boot. Ill see if i can unscrew that.
