XChris1632X
My escort is suffering badly. its gotten so bad lately that it doesnt idle right and will die and if it doesnt die it revs itself to 3000 then 500 then back up again constantly. it acts like there is vacuum problem so i replaced air filter and noticed oil all in my air box. this was two weeks ago. checked today it was back again. sometimes it accelerates fine all the way up too 5000 rpms with a tiny point where you see the tach shoot backwards about 200 rpms then back to 5000. sometimes if i lay on it it will go to about 3500 rpms spudder and growl loudly due to the hole in my exhuast, but it wont move past 15 miles an hour. keep in mind this is all only under full load. if its running like shit and i back it off to 3/4 throttle it accelerates like an escort should. i think its gotta be ignition problem but im not sure. i have to change plugs and wires but all my money is going to the camaro. just wanna see if anyone has any ideas. Ziggy1647545504
How many miles? Ever do a catalytic converter? My F-body did that once, turned out the catty was completely collapsed. Nothing a big screwdriver couldn't fix though! Broke it up REAL good!
Ziggy1647545504
My wife's contour started acting up like that too. It would only surge from 300 to about 1000 RPM, and ran out pretty good.I ran some fuel injector cleaner through a tank, and cleared the surging up pretty quick. Hope it's something simple, easy and cheap. Like that ever happens.
XChris1632X
its been about 9,000 miles since new plugs and wires. i think they may be clogged with oil due to my air filter and vacuum problem making it run rich. and ive been meaning to gut my cat. im gonna due a plug change. but still cant figure out what all the oil in the airbox is from. its a standing puddle. Buck531
Buy a new PCV valve. That's probably why you're getting oil in your air box. Could be stuck open or clogged? (I'm sure as HELL not a mechanic) smile.gif .
