zeitgeist57
Two part qweshtion here: 1) It seems to me that the FM and AM radio reception on my Sony CD headunit (in my Maxima) is getting worse and worse by the minute. I was driving on I-90 in CLeveland Friday night, and I kept hitting "scan" but no radio station had a strong enough signal for me to pick up. While driving down 315, I can't get 99.7 OR 97.9. Is this a function of the head unit, my integrated antenna (wire in the rear window)? 2)With that, how can I measure the signal strength of an aftermarket radio? Thanks! I know that most aftermarket radios have VERY shitty radio reception. I just want to get a signal when driving outside of 270! smile.gif
Nitrousbird
As long as all the antenna wiring is intact and in good shape, I'd blame it on the head unit. I wouldn't put a Sony head unit in my beater, they straight up suck. I wouldn't say all aftermarket head units have bad radio reception. My Eclipse had great reception (freaking theives). The Premier in my Formula has good reception. The antenna isn't hooked up to the Pioneer in my Blazer, so the reception is non existant. The Kenwood in my boat seems to do pretty decently. The older Clarion I had did kinda suck for reception.
Guest mudbutt
you can get some other car antenna and hook it up, not mounted, see if it changes. I agree though, Sony is prettymuch a flaming ball of suck. Out all of the radios I have sold and Installed, Kenwood, followed by Pioneer/Premier have the best tuners. Guest BlackS14
Nissan (and BMW) use an antenna "amplifier" when they have the window antennae. Borrow a external antenna from Pep Boys, hook it up direct and see if it works (already suggested). If it turns out to be the antenna itself (likely the amp.) scavenge a new one out of any 96 and up Max.

Guest OhioSiGuy
I have a pioneer which is great, well mine is, but i suggest looking into the concetion from the antena to the head unit, make sure all conections are solid and pluged in. If any lines you had to alter make sure they are also solid and sodered. Thats always a good extra measure to go. I'm just a kid but usally its the easy little stuff that goes wrong so maybe i helped.
