I was wondering if people, who have been there, can make some suggestions on where to go to eat... as well as the average $$ per person. I'd really appreciate it. We're going to be there for 7 days, so I'll need plenty of suggestions of all kinds of dollare ranges. Go eat up top of the Stratosphere(sp), Its about 20 bucks a plate but you can see everything in Vegas. Dr. Pomade Posted October 3, 2004 Report Share Posted October 3, 2004 I usually ate in the places where I've stayed - the Stratosphere and the Monte Carlo. I stayed at the Stratosphere only because my g/f won a trip there through a radio station. In a word, the Stratosphere is booty. Sure, like it was implied earlier in this thread, the roller coaster / restaurant thing at the top of the Stratosphere is neat, and it does offer a nice view. However, if I want to do roller coasters, then I'll go to Cedar Point. To each his own, I guess. However, if you want "Vegas," don't waste your time in the Stratosphere. The larger casinos (Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Luxor, Hard Rock, Mirage, etc.) all have food courts, and those are usually priced fairly. Again, when I'm in Vegas, I don't usually worry about eating - so, my approach has always been one of "get-just-enough-to-stave-off-hunger-pains." If you are interested in eating somewhere nice, though, just ask a casino host, or any cab driver for that matter - they'll know where to send you. Speaking of cab fare, it's outrageous. You pay by the amount of time you're in the cab - this makes since, given that the strip isn't that big, so they need to collect on time, not on distance. Anyway, expect to spend around $20 each time you step in a cab, regardless of where you are going. Maybe you'll rent a car out there. Great - although traffic on the strip is fairly brutal. Think the 70/71 split at rushhour. Not intolerable, just really annoying. Walking on the strip is fairly brutal as well. I'm athletic enough, and I don't mind walking, but I still found walking there to be miserable. It's longer than you think just to walk from one casino to another. When I first went, I had this misconception that everything is just right there. Well, it is all fairly condensed, but these casinos take up literally thousands of acres, so it was something of a rude awakening for me to realize that it takes about 20 minutes to walk from one major place to the next. So, if you plan on walking anywhere on the strip, be sure to wear comfortable shoes. About the Viper rental, we looked into that when we went - I was going to rent one a drive to LA. I think the cost was around $300 to $500 for the day. Don't quote me on that, though. Another thought: Old Vegas sucks. I'm talking about "downtown" Vegas - not the strip where all the big casinos are, but down in the older part of Vegas, where they have the Golden Nugget and the Horseshoe and shit like that. It's fairly ghetto down there - definitely not the glitz and glam that you think of when you think of Vegas. My advice would be to steer clear of that part of town, regardless of how many locals tell you "that's where the good gambling is." Hope this is of some help. If you rent a car you will save tons of money on cab fare and you can go everywhere you want (VALET IS FREE). I suggest hitting Boulder Station or one of the Station casinos, they have 5.99 buffets. The Rio is the best place out there in my opinion. Since I have only been three times this year my mind is a little cloudy about where to go. 9 Fine Irishmen has an awesome feel and awesome music. Don't mix Jameson, Cider, Guiness, Bud and Harp cause it will screw up the next days activities. BTW, Downtown is really ghetto, but the Freemont Street Experience (Light show) is worth seeing once.
