Pull the air cleaner off and watch the injector, if the spray pattern looks good(no drips of fuel , nice even spray ) then I'd check the coolant temp sensor! The early 4-cyl models have a habit of going up in flames due to bad block castings, and defective rods. Friend of mine had his burst into flames while he was driving it.
