Science Abuse
fucking nutjobs doing this on the deck in 250mph hardskined ultralights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpyhKgWf47o&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEWbK-mX8Gg&mode=related&search= Aircraft suitable for the Red Bull Air Race cost around 230,000 euros each. A conventional sports plane does not come close to having the necessary agility, and the forces encountered in a race would break it to bits. The planes flown by the Air Race pilots are mostly made of advanced carbon composites that can withstand forces of up to 15G and reach top speeds of around 450 kph. They can fly at speeds as low as 100 kph and still perform their unbelievable manoeuvres. Their maximum roll rate is 420 degrees per second, the equivalent of 70 rpm; a spin cycle that makes it impossible for the pilots to perceive the horizon. Despite the extreme demands made on the aircraft and their highly similar performance, the planes used in the Air Race are actually quite dissimilar. Kirby Chambliss, Mike Mangold, Peter Besenyei and Alejandro Maclean rely on the Edge. Klaus Schrodt, Nicholas Ivanoff, Nigel Lamb, Paul Bonhomme and Steve Jones fly the Extra, while Frank Versteegh flies the slightly heavier two-seater Extra. Michael Goulian has a variation on the Extra, an Extra 300SHP. The Extra and the Edge are considered to be the best-suited aircraft for the Red Bull Air Race: they have an appealing mixture of precision, agility and acceleration. Rally Pat
This is kind of unrelated, but kind of not. Did anyone else see that completely carbon fiber LS1 powered plane?

Science Abuse
This is kind of unrelated, but kind of not. Did anyone else see that completely carbon fiber LS1 powered plane? yes. Straight line plane, probably fast but nose heavy, wouldn't want one. There are better ways of getting that power.
