Where to get info on Jags?

I'm liking these XJRs and XJ12s....on paper. I know the 98+ XJRs have $10,000 exploding Mercedes transmissions, and I know what "Vanden Plas" means, but thats about it. I'm looking for more info or possible forums that will have the info.....anyone?

I'd settle for the right XJ6 or 8, but my primary concern is reliability.

The "real" jaguar (aka not Ford) XJ12's of the late 80's/early 90's are very good cars. There is a fellow in town I know that has one for a daily. They also are not that expensive to maintain as long as you take the time to cross reference parts.

a great place to find out about Jags are in junk yards where most of them live. You can rummage around in their glory of what once was. If you stay long enough some say you can hear stories some of them tell about the days when they ran becasue the warranty paid for their expensive parts. :)

owners of these always seem too try too get the coupon oil change!

when the filter alone is around $30 bucks, and they hold 10 -12 quarts of oil.

i have some motor books that cover them rather well, plus hemmings is the other option!

Did someone say reliability and Jaguar in the same sentence? there was a period in the eighties when they really went to pot, bringing them stateside with all the emissions did not help, the newer stuff may be decent but I would trust a Bimmer or 300E Merc or even a lux Jap brand before going for Jaguar.

edit Vanden plas is a "posher" version of a standard trim.

That would do very nicely...I helped a old GF buy a 300e with only a 2.8 six it scooted would buy another if the stars lined up.Got some money burning a hole Eric?

Not realy. It's something I can afford (only $12,500), I'm still wrestling with whether I should or not. I've got a nice 420SEL to fall back on it.

Can anyone speak for 540i's?
