nurkvinny
Yesterday at work, my boss - 45 year old female - had the converter cut off of her 99 Cherokee in the work parking lot. The security cameras show a POS white car pull up and park beside her Jeep, and 7 minutes later, pull away. She went to leave for the day, and realized her exhaust was LOUD. Her husband ended up welding on a new exhaust during the OSU halftime. The reason? Platinum in the converter... worth A LOT to metal recyclers. FUCKERS. Stallion Motorsports1647545491
This style theft is huge right now. Local police are having all kinds of problems with it. It doesnt help that the Dispatch wrote up a huge story about it. They are targeting suvs and trucks, so they can slide under and cut off (with a cordless saw) the converter. Most of the recylce places are paying 40-65 each. But that is 40 for 7 minutes worth of work. It sucks because they are expensive to replace. sorry, tom

HotCarl
Same thing happened to our work a few weeks ago in December. I saw the lady pull off the side of the road and realized the exhaust on her Jeep Grand Cherokee was on the ground. Cops took reports, our lazy fucking corporate security didn't do shit about it... too busy surfing the internets i suppose. Seriously Corp. security just bought a brand new trailblazer and guess what they do with it... FUCKING PARK IT, in front of the building. Wow I bet that will just scare them away. sorry for the rant. Weird cuz I just found out this weekend I can get 75 bucks for my old stock cat that's been sitting around. I guess I could even sell the old manifolds, sweet. Good luck stealing something that's not there though.

I had no idea they were worth anything until a month or two ago.

BloodRed
Well crap thanks for the heads up. Some one could make a pretty penny on both my Stratus and the Elantra. I think the stratus has 3 cats and the Elantra has 4. Oh well I guess I would just have to do straight pipes, LOL

Guest Removed
Its a new crime wave, its happening everywhere. and honestly, they would get more out of them, if they unbolted them.the newer ones are high dollar, and if unbolted(and not cut)they can be worth 3 times as much. Theres a guy that stops by the shop and buys them, he paid 110 for one of the converters we had. And if they steal mine, they wont get no money, they dont nothing for empty shells. Crossle
We had a lady come in at work w/ a toyota tacoma truck w/ the cat stolen. Hers was stolen over night while the truck sat in her driveway. We have a guy that comes around as well that buys our used cats. Good money. We keep all of our old wheel weights in a bucket and take that to the yard every other year or so and make like 40 bucks.....good for a almost free lunch for the shop.
