street pilot
I know its not a "new" car or anything, but damn these things are nice. For those that dont know, its a 300hp turbo AWD sedan. Anyone have any experience with this car? Reliability of the motor?
Science Abuse
In Europe, you can get that engine and awd in a Focus. Back in the states, Ford wonders why they loose market share here.

Not to stray off topic...but you can not get an AWD Focus ANYWHERE. It's still FWD.

I thought they *had* to produce an AWD focus due to WRC homologation rules? The Escorts got it, I though it went without saying that the Focus would also....hence the lack of really reading into it. That engine with only FWD makes me long for the predictability and balance of a Clio 24v.
PeteS40
S60R FTW.. great car.. pre-ford... really good sleeper, the upgrade path is pretty nicce also
Mensan
Anyone have any experience with this car? The S40, 60, and 80 all handle like they are on rails. I personally loved the S60. Zero body roll. Turning radius sucks though. It would make a great UNMODIFIED daily driver.

Skinner
No joke. You think Hyundai ever made an AWD Tiburon turbo for production? There are other examples as well. IIRC the tib was never part of the WRC the accent was.
Mallard
IIRC the tib was never part of the WRC the accent was. Yes, you may be correct, but the Tib I speak of was used in the US Pro Rally series (depending on who it was at the time, Rally America and SCCA) Although the Accent is just another example. SlowmotionMotorsports
The S60R is AMAZING!! I got to drive it at Volvo's R&D center (Arizona) 1/2 mile banked oval track. I am a hard core Volvo nut, having owned Volvos for 15 years, plus I worked at Byers Volvo for 4 years. Want to make the S60R faster: http://www.evolvecars.com/site/index.php?id=176,338,0,0,1,0 Any questions about any Volvo please ask! badzinc03
I drove one of those about a year ago. I was seriously considering it and it drives very nice. Cool interior. You should check out EVOLVE. They have some sick cars.
SPLN SUX
and everyone was hatin... tisk tisk. Like the frightened baby chipmunk, you are scared of anything that is different. Volvo rules... old news... i figured this out back in 04. An S60R is in my near future With anything Volvo, you can do it yourself for much cheaper if you have the skills and tools... but be carefull, its very easy to overbuild the engine and start popping axels and wheel bearings. Got-Boost?
Not to stray off topic...but you can not get an AWD Focus ANYWHERE. It's still FWD. I thought they built a Focus RS in Europe that is AWD TURBO but I guess not.....
evan9381
there was an AWD turbo (maybe twin) fully caged tib, although hyundai didnt produce it. bill smulo engineering (BSE) did...it was one of those "get the car for a dollar to develop products, but we're gonna wreck it in X amount of time"...he used the drivetrain from a hyundai santa fe...really was a pretty nice tib, but from what was said, there was probably 100k dropped into that car between all the parts/testing http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49649&highlight=bse+tiburon looks like the pics expired and someone also made a twin engine awd 97 tib that ran like 10.90s on some small IHI turbos. Mallard
I thought they built a Focus RS in Europe that is AWD TURBO but I guess not..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Focus Mechanically, the car was uprated in all areas and far more bespoke than the SVT/ST170 and most notably incorporated a Quaife differential to make the car more direct, responsive and to control the power more ably as the RS was still front wheel drive. The steering was quicker while the brakes featured larger discs (which filled specially developed 18" alloy wheels). The Ford Focus RS ended production in 2004 and left the legacy of being arguably the finest front wheel drive turbo car in history. There was never a production AWD Focus. Not even the RS. evan - Yes, I know about that car. Hyundai also built a handful of AWD turbo (using the 4 cylinder 'beta' engine) rally cars. They brought one of the cars out of retirement for the '06 X-games. I don't think they run Rally America anymore. http://www.evolvecars.com/albums/album27/CIMG0715.sized.jpg Dual calipers are worthless, overley complicated, and add extra wieght. I like most of the other stuff they do though. SPLN SUX - No one ever said Volvo's aren't cool. Just not S40's.
evan9381
i guess you're ahead of me...i didnt know they did any AWDs w/ the beta 2 motor (beta 1 was the MAF based motor in the older tibs/elantras FWIW)
street pilot
I never thought twice about a volvo, when I hear that word I think of a station wagon falling from a building. Then I noticed a S60 R on the road and decided to look up the specs. Sleeper indeed, thats half the attraction to me. I have always been a fan of imports, so this Ford platform has me leary, but what about the engines?

The S60R is a well rounded sleeper that can easily suprise the best of sport cars..
