SinisterSS Posted January 7, 2008 Report Share Posted January 7, 2008 they were talking about this subject on the radio this morning, they were saying Blu-Ray was gonna win between the 2 because of the clarity they gave movie examples to compare between the 2, they said Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End was the best to look at and compare between the too, I don't know personally! but I think I'm gonna go with the Blu-Ray only because of the PS3! Sony decided that the best way to reward their paying customers who wanted to listen to their Sony produced audio CDs on their PCs was to install a 'rootkit' which is essentially a hacking tool used to undermine the security of your OS for an unknown purpose. The alleged purpose was to restrict the ability of the PC to rip audio from the disc, but the actual purpose could have been *anything*. This is what they consider legitimate business practice, as a content producer. The reason why I feel HD DVD will win as well is because anything as far as new format sony backs fails. Maybe not the best statement by me but look at their track record. Beta, UMD, Mini disc and a few others. All in all HD DVD is the one for me! lol Plus I have Pirates on HD dvd. im going to knock on myself. My previous statement is well.....DUMB. I have a blu ray player in a PS3 and I wouldnt go to HD DVD if you paid me. Its still kinda dumb to have a format war again but thats business. BLU RAY for the WIN. Well this Christmas I went and got a PS3 for the Blu Ray. After researching it seem the PS3 is a very good Blu Ray player. I don't have any games for it besides High Velocity Bowling I down loaded . And I like the fact it is WiFi equipped to download updates that they put out for Blu Ray players. I didn't feel like sending out for a disk or down loading updates on a CD-R to load up onto other blu ray players. The load times of some of the other players almost take as long as 3 minutes the PS3 plays them very quick. The movies are also better since most production companies are going that route. The TV makes all the difference when watching HD content, what the TV gets will be the same whether it's coming from a disc or even OTA from NBC-4. My personal opinion is that this will end with Toshiba and MS licensing out HD-DVD tech for such a low cost that dual format players will become the norm. I just don't get owning movies or going to a theater to see them anymore? 4.99 is cheaper than seeing the movie in the theater, or buying it. And you get the movie in HD. To buy a HD movie you would have to watch it 6-8 times to come out on top by buying the movie. I want the Macbook Air, Time Capsule, and Apple TV Take 2, to go along with my iPhone. OTA is HIGHLY compressed, HD-discs will look WAY better so if you think OTA looks good, get a High-Def Player oh, and...........FUCK APPLE! i have been able to D/L (rent) HD Movies from XBOX Live for like a year now, for damn near the same price, and it does photos, and music too! but, i still think i will be going the Blockbuster/NetFlix route to get physical media as it will not be as compressed as HD D/L rentals Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Or maybe watch the same movie several times. But talking about this Apple Product; I looked at the link, and REAL questions about it aren't answered: - How big are the files? They HAVE to be compressing it, and compressing it a lot. Even if you had a consistant 8Mbps download rate, it would still take almost 6 hours to download a 20 gig movie. I'm betting these movies are 10 gig tops, and at that point are being compressed to the point where it isn't going to look as good as HD-DVD/Blue Ray. - What about special features? I like looking at how the film was made, deleted scenes, etc. - $4.99/movie is expensive; I can rent the discs for far less, even if I wasn't copying them.
