Science Abuse
So, I broke a wheel stud while doing a brake job tonight. Dig this: While putting the nut ON. Not while torquing on it, while pre-torquing, couldn't have been more then 30lb ft. The fractured stud came out of the nut by finger, effortlessly. WTF? So, I need a joint to replace the stud and inspect the rest. I can't do it, and I don't have time to do the inspection during the week. Needs to be close to the Polaris area, I don't want the wife doing highway speeds with one gone, and potentially more stress'cracked studs. Buck531
I drove from Chicago to here on 4 wheel studs from the track and had no issues. I've also driven 6 months with 4 studs. no issues. Is yours a 4 lug or 5?
Berto
even a 4 lug car with 1 missing I wouldn't worry too much. Just tell her to be careful going to the shop.
Science Abuse
I'm not worried 'bout 4 studs. I'm worried about how easily the stud broke, and how many more may be waiting to snap.
