Linc5.0
For me....$5000-7500 is an average night...like snow we had couple weeks ago...just depends on how much salt I have to throw.... But I have a buddy that has a truck that works for me, plus a shoveler in his truck and a shoveler in my truck...So I dont make all that for myself, Just most of it
thorne
So ... If I owned a blow truck and knew how to plow I could pay for said truck quite quickly.
Linc5.0
Yes...but you have to have accounts. Thats the hard part. Its not just get a truck and start plowing. But yes, I bought my truck 4 months ago($26k) and hope to have it paid off by the end of this winter...if it keeps snowing....if not then by the end of this year....Then its all profit. Like what's the cost of the salt and your fuel per night? Do you just post ads and have people contact you? I was thinking of doing this next year. Duff1647545513
Couldn't you write the truck, salt and plow and everything off on your taxes too?
Linc5.0
No i own a mowing company, so just about everyone that I mow for I plow for. I spend about : Gas-$200 anight, Salt $800-1000(but you are charging them per bag and also for the labor of spreading it)...so REally no cost to me, I make it right back. When its all said and done, after paying out to the guys that work for me adbn gas...I spend roughly $1500. Then my truck payment ($550). So I atleast make around $3000 in profit. Yes you write everything off including the coffee you drink...lol. To the clothes that you "only" plow in
Linc5.0
There is no tricks to the trade it is all common sense stuff. I do not fear any other plowers because there is so much work in columbus. EVERYONE that plows knows these things. It is not a big secret that there is a Ton of money to be made in plowing. I dont mind telling people my expenses if it helps someone else to help themselves in the future. ps. benz guy i live right by Green meadows, right on powell rd. Look for the big white F-250 on the right hand side jsut before green meadows... pps...Subcontractors make $55 to $65 and hour.

Im with you, Ive seen what plowing will do to truck. Granted the money is excellent. I just want my truck to last(plus its a dodge lol). So I usually lay low in the winter. Thankfully, with the way the last few years have been, I can do that. Im like a bear, hibernating. My woman hates me. She has to get up and go out in this lol. Guest LSWON333
Well mine is a Dodge I cant hang with you big boys. I haul and tow gravel, bricks and sand all the time, 2500 lbs+. So it works fine for me, just not plowing snow.
HotCarl
With that much weight in the back, do you even need a 4x4?
Sam1647545489
With a snow plowing truck I would recomend it not be your prize truck. I have gone through alot of front end parts, alignments almost every year after plowing, u joints plus the salt is killer on the truck body. My truck luckily has no rust but alot of my brake lines, tranny cooler lines had to be replaced this yr from rusting out. Money is very good with plowing but you must beready to spend 15-30hrs at a time in your truck which is hell on your back and legs. Also its alot of back and forth, back and forth when plowing big lots. Curbs play hell on plows if you were to hit one of them. Also alot of traffic that is moving around in the lot if there is any, people are always pulling behind you. On a good night I should be home 2500$ cash after paying my sidewalk guy and gas. Luckily I get my salt for trade from another snow plow guy who buys it in bulk. I do acouple of his smaller lots for the salt. So the amount I pay for salt is just in time. I will usually go through 40 gallons of gas in about a 10 hr spand. I remember the year that we had that bad ice storm 2 yrs ago, I was in my truck for 35 hrs straight. I remember sleeping in it for an hour to get some rest then going right back to plow. That time though was a 5k pay day once all accounts were paid. I think i did my route 2x in that time spand. Like said before, plowing is a good paying business but it does have its done falls. Truck maintenance can get costly. Salt is a killer on the truck and the front end of the truck goes through hell. If you were to think about plowing, I wouldnt recomend anything under a 3/4 ton truck. Anything smaller wont last more then a yr if you are lucky. Even 3/4 ton truck have a hard time. The heavier the truck the better and longer it will last. Also when you have a ton of salt in the bed, four wheel drive is never needed unless you get stuck. I never use it nor do I need to.. smokin5s
my g-f's dad does it on the side... he said that he makes enough even in warm winters to pay all of his bills for the year... his fulltime job is just play money. (of course he has the city contract) he took this year off though because he said that it really is hard on you, especailly when you get the call at 2am when a freak snow storm comes in.
