Mac and computer savy users..

So I'm thinkin about making the switch to a Mac and I was just wondering if its worth it in your opinion? I'll probably be using a lot of photoshop, finalcut, garageband, itunes, and the normal internet surfing and class-work. I'm not overly computer savy so forgive me

Any advice? Stick with PC (a new sony vaio) or switch to a macbook?!

I'm thinking about getting either the new macbook pro or macbook air. Should I should wait or go for it?!

Stick with a PC. I love my iPhone, but Apple is so proprietary it's not even funny. there is no upgrading, there is no changing, you get apples version of a wonderful experience in their box and you love it.

It's personal preference any more. Go play with one for a bit and see if you like it. Then take in consideration the applications you want use and their availability for each platform.

I just got a Macbook last week and I love it. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once used to it, the Mac is very simple and intuitive to use.

About being upgradeable, they are just as upgradeable as a PC. I can upgrade everything that you'd be able to upgrade in a PC laptop. Which isn't much since laptops aren't really upgrade friendly to begin with. I really don't know what you'd want to upgrade other than ram anyways. Anything else and you might as well buy a new machine anyways.

They run everything a PC can run including windows. I read that the new mac runs Vista better than a PC of comparable price. I have Microsoft office so I'm not hung out to dry with class assignments.

Go to the apple store and play around with them a bit and talk to someone there. They really are superior machines. If you can afford it get the MacBook Pro, it has the computing power of a desktop in laptop form.

This is a difficult question. If you are going to do a lot of photoshop' date=' web-development, graphic design then I say go Mac and don't look back. If you are comfortable with Mac and are just 'on the fence' then go with what seems more user friendly to you. I switched from Windows machines to Mac about 4 years ago. At first I hated it. I couldn't find anything, the whole [b']'one button mouse' weirded me out. Now I hate using a PC. They are counter-intuitive, in my opinion, and don't perform as well as a Macintosh. Now, I say that knowing full well that PCs have their place. That place just isn't anywhere near my home office or my wife's graphic design profession.

That's whats always got me, is the damn one-touch!! That's probably the main reason I dont already have one. I also was looking around on the apple site, and noticed you can run windows, OS X , boot camp, etc..

honestly, I dont really care about upgrades. But i really like the versatility of mac's (but not so much the price of it)

They aren't one touch anymore. Mine has both buttons (they're just hidden). In fact the touch pad is one of the things I like most about my Mac. Scrolling is so easy, as is zooming in and out, rotating, and all sorts of other features you can do.

Boot camp allows you to run either OS X or Windows. You just have to choose at start up. You can also get a program called Parallels that allows you to run both OS X and Windows at the same time.

The one button mouse is tits. You get used to it and when you grab a PC mouse you're like' date=' "What the fuck?"

I currently have the Mac Mini. A friend bought it and used it for about 3 months. I can't remember why he got rid of it but he gave it to me. I was like, "Uh, duh!" He was like, "Uh, really?" I was like, "Sha, yeah!" So, now I have a Mini. It's cool, quiet, doesn't take up a lot of room. The Mrs. has the iMac and a Mac Book Pro. We use the Cube as storage space, mostly. I've got tons of porn on my machine as well. Never one virus, glitch or issue. It doesn't get sick. (and I look at some pretty gross porn)

As far as price goes.. I've only upgraded to the Mini because of that sweet deal. If it weren't for that I'd probably be using the Cube which is 8 years old and still running perfectly. They are a bit pricier but don't go obsolete like a PC will.[/quote']

Apple store online refurb mac book pro 2.4ghz 256 video card 2gigs of ram ect $1299 thats a hell of a lot of computer for that price. I've bought quite a few refurbs and they always look new to me. I use PC at work and Macs at home I prefer the Mac.

lol @ John... we use Final Cut at work. It's more like something that I would see in an editing studio on a dedicated computer, not a user's computer. Most Macs and PCs would be pressed to run it well. So it's a high end computer that will be happy with it. The Photoshop will run on either well, unless the user is at the high end of the Photoshop skill level. Then it's back to looking for a high end computer to run that as well. Definitely check the minimum requirements for each software package, and go up from there. Remember, it's not computers that are selected for purchase. It's the software, and then the computers that will run it. Also, if you're doing sound editing, most computers do not have stereo out (or in), so you will need to add a good sound card for that. I won't pick Mac vs PC, they both work. Seems like people who used them in high school or college prefer one over the other forever after. The pros at work use one of each, minimum. And buy expensive software constantly.Think about that.
