Mattsn2o281
So i have been trying to get my buddies camaro runnin right, and i am thinking that we have a major carb issue. its a 4160 style i think, no metering plate on the secondaries, so i know its not a 4150. holley wasn't much help, they said i needed the carb size and type, but they couldn't tell from the numbers on the choke horn. Its on a 355, and what its doing is it will idle fine, but its running crazy rich, to the point of burning my eyes if im in the garage while its running. also, if you try and crack it, its just loading up. timing is set @ 15 deg initial running a pro billet msd w/ 20 deg total advance, so the motor should be seing around 35 total if it would ever spin up. How do you baseline a carb, as in what should the block be set at, the accel pump arm adj, and anything else? i have the metering block screws out 1 1/4 turns from full in, and am not messing with anything else. i'm basicly carb stupid, i always had my grandpa do mine, i mean i can make little changes, but i need to figure out what to do, i think 4 other people have had their hand in it, so who know what jets are in it, or what if anything they messed with. i need to get it running decent enough to hit it a bit to see what all it needs. Any help would be great guys, i'm lost! thanks matt?
Tinman
I would guess either the float level is too high, needle and seats are sticking or have debris between them, or the fuel pressure is too high and over powering the needle and seat. First off, check and set the fuel pressure, no more than 7 p.s.i. at idle. Second, remove and clean the needle and seat assemblies, make sure they work smoothly. Third, reinstall the needle and seat assemblies almost all the way down. Then, with the engine or feul pump running, set them to the point that the fuel barely trickles out of the sight plug holes. Mattsn2o281
Cool deal man, i really appreciate the help. a buddy came over and got it figured out. one, it was a 750cfm carb that was absolutly drowning the motor, 2 it was a few teeth out on the dist. we still have to tune the new carb, a used 650, so i will start here. thanks again. Hey i see youre in johnstown, you ever bring that rx-7 through newark? i know of a turbo'd del sol puttin down around 425-475 whp plus spray if you ever wanna catch a run out this way, he aint realy got much competition around here. i think your car is the one i have heard about on here. later. Tinman
I'm hoping to have it back on the road in a month or so. If he is looking for a money race, we can make it happen.

Mattsn2o281
for the record, if what i hear about your car is true you will utterly destroy his car. from what a few people have said he's gettin an ego about his del sol. it's not like i think he'd be a good run for you, i just want to see him get worked hard.
