Fast cars...

I wrote this back in 2005. I thought I would share it with the class...

Why do we buy fast cars? The majority of people that buy fast sports cars never take them above 100 mph. People spend the extra $7000, $8000, $10,000, $400,000!! for a car that they wont ever take to the race track!! If thats the case then why not get a V6 or a 4 banger. It pisses me off when I see a car with a V8 on the freeway doing 40mph..WTF!!! Personally I am addicted to fast cars. I love the way they feel... I love the power.... I love knowing if I am already doing 80mph and I mash my gas pedal my car wont bog down and struggle. I'm not saying be a reckless idiot! I'm saying have fun! If you are on the freeway at 3am with no cars around (and you are familiar with the road) see what that baby can do! Shit you paid $8,000 for the bigger engine, whats one $300 dollar ticket!!!!! Just remember to be careful. Not everyone knows how to control a car going 155mph. But Im pretty sure 101mph is acheivable :D .

Or maybe they just have respect for other peoples lives and actually do the speed limits.

The speed limit on the highway is 65 mph not 40 mph. I see that shit all the time... pisses me off too, because I have to drive a beeter lincoln. When your in a '92 lincoln that is falling apart and your going the speed limit and passing corvettes... that's alittle rediculous. I hate old people!

My wife commented the other day and asked why I drive like I do. I don't flog my humble sedan off the light, I usually tap-shift drive her and launch slightly above "normal" to about 20-30mph and then I push her to 90% up the tach, shift and back off. I'll also run between 45-60mph in smaller bursts around town in 45mph zones. Nothing blazing and I certainly don't cruise at 60mph in such zones, but I live and enjoy the torque.

I just told her that's what I do....I love the power, love the feel and ability to use what she has and if I didn't I may as well just drive a civic DX or something. I may just do that next year for a bit to cut back for our new home, but I'll always have a toy with some nuts. Occasionally I'll push her way up top, but only when I know it's safe from the po-po....but even then, there's a risk. Track is more fun really.

She doesn't quite understand...but then she's the driver who has had a fair share of nice cars that never saw triple digits or rpms above 4500 :rolleyes: She's also tooling around in van quite a bit now too :(

One 300 dollar ticket usually equals more than 300 a year in insurance.

I, on the other hand, like the ability to reach triple digit speeds in around 4 seconds or less and get 40mpg under "typical" conditions.

Oh and the minimum speed allowed on the freeways is 45, anything less is also ticketable.

This is a joke... right???

40 on the freeway = ghey.

Edit: I understand what he means. Its not about doing 40, its about those people that are the exact opposite and put peoples lives in danger. It just would have made more sense without the quote.

i thought this thread was about:

You got a fast car

I want a ticket to anywhere

Maybe we make a deal

Maybe together we can get somewhere

Anyplace is better

Starting from zero got nothing to lose

Maybe we'll make something

But me myself I got nothing to prove

You got a fast car

And I got a plan to get us out of here

I been working at the convenience store

Managed to save just a little bit of money

We won't have to drive too far

Just 'cross the border and into the city

You and I can both get jobs

And finally see what it means to be living

You see my old man's got a problem

He live with the bottle that's the way it is

He says his body's too old for working

I say his body's too young to look like his

My mama went off and left him

She wanted more from life than he could give

I said somebody's got to take care of him

So I quit school and that's what I did

You got a fast car

But is it fast enough so we can fly away

We gotta make a decision

We leave tonight or live and die this way

I remember we were driving driving in your car

The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk

City lights lay out before us

And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder

And I had a feeling that I belonged

And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone

You got a fast car

And we go cruising to entertain ourselves

You still ain't got a job

And I work in a market as a checkout girl

I know things will get better

You'll find work and I'll get promoted

We'll move out of the shelter

Buy a big house and live in the suburbs

You got a fast car

And I got a job that pays all our bills

You stay out drinking late at the bar

See more of your friends than you do of your kids

I'd always hoped for better

Thought maybe together you and me would find it

I got no plans I ain't going nowhere

So take your fast car and keep on driving

You got a fast car

But is it fast enough so you can fly away

You gotta make a decision

You leave tonight or live and die this way

People who buy fast cars and don't abuse them even out the statistics. If everyone with a quick car drove recklessly, the government would see a trend and put extreme limits on cars.

Also, the wealthy guys who buy fast cars keep the market alive. If a fast car wasn't considered "cool" it would just be the true enthusiasts buying them. In that case, there would be far fewer purchasers which would result in fewer performance models to choose from. How bland would the sports car market be if we only had mustangs and miatas to choose from?

So be thankful for your wealthy neighbor who doesn't know how to drive. He makes it possible for the rest of us to have fun.

PS. I have that song on my ipod. lol

I just like to get up to speed via on-ramps with a little extra go. I'm not one to speed, but getting up to speed faster than most other cars is fun to me. Also, I feel that having a car that can get moving is far better safety wise than some economy car with 90hp that is holding up everyone on the highway and restricting the flow of traffic.
