lawnman
I have a trunk mounted battery. I do not have a battery cutoff switch mounted yet. Will NTR let me run without one?

nurkvinny
Is it in a box? Is it vented outside? If so, then yes.
lawnman
It is in a box and the box is vented, but the box is in an enclosed trunk. I really just want to get a baseline for the car , 1 run maybe 2.
Buck531
Do you have room for a fake battery up front? Do that and get some dummy terminals and make sure you bolt it down with zip ties or something.
MrMeanGreen
Is it in a box? Is it vented outside? If so, then yes. No. Any relocated battery. http://www.nhra.com/contacts/tech_faq.html I have a street car that I occasionally run at the strip. I've relocated the battery to the rear. What else do I need? http://www.nhra.com/images/spacer.gifAny car with a relocated battery must be equipped with a master electrical cutoff, capable of stopping all electrical functions including ignition (must shut the engine off, as well as fuel pumps, etc.). The switch must be located on the rear of the vehicle, with the "off" position clearly marked. If the switch is of a "push / pull" type, then "push" must be the motion that shuts off the switch, and plastic or "keyed" typed switches are prohibited. Also, the battery must be completely sealed from the driver and/or driver compartment. This means a metal bulkhead must separate the trunk from the driver compartment, or the battery must be located in a sealed, metal box constructed of minimum .024 inch steel or .032 inch aluminum, or in an NHRA accepted plastic box. In cars with a conventional trunk, metal can simply be installed behind the rear seat and under the package tray to effectively seal the battery off from the driver. In a hatchback type vehicle the battery box is usually the easiest solution, since the alternative is to fabricate a bulkhead which seals to the hatch when closed. At present, Moroso is the only company which offers an NHRA accepted plastic battery box, part number 74050. But I drive on the street. I don't want a big cut off switch hanging on the back. http://www.nhra.com/images/spacer.gifThis solution takes a little work, but it solves the problem. Install the master cutoff inside the vehicle, positioned "sideways" so that the toggle moves forward and back. Drill a hole in the toggle handle, and attach a steel rod that will run out the back of the car, through a hole drilled completely through one tail light assembly. Have a spare tail light assembly on hand, so when you come home from the drags, you remove the rod and put the cherry tail light back in for street cruising. Next time you plan on going to the drag strip, swap lights and reinstall the rod. Since the drilled light is for the strip only, you can also have it marked "PUSH OFF" in big letters so the Tech Inspectors will think you're cool. nurkvinny
I don't care what a book says. Years of going through NTR's tech > book. Go there on a grudge night, act normal, IF they say anything, which they likely won't, play dumb, act nice, and you will get to race. Guest Removed
I have a trunk mounted battery. I do not have a battery cutoff switch mounted yet. Will NTR let me run without one? do you have a fire wall? vented etc.. and yes you better have a cut off switch.
nurkvinny
I don't want to see you pay to get in, and then fail tech, then come back and yell at me. But, I have seen over and over that if your car looks like a street car, and you act cool with the tech guy, throw in a, "oh man, I didn't know that, I will add one before I come back", it's fine. MrMeanGreen
That's what I was aiming at avoiding. The drive out there, then being rejected. Been there, done that
Rice Eater
If NTR is anything like Kil-Kare they walk around the car and look for 20 lug nuts and a seatbelt and long pants and slap the wristband on. If they nit-picked every car on a TnT night they would never get it going. Not saying it's right...just saying it IS.
Guest Removed
No , NTR went as far as too check my neutrel safey switchs and everything. They are getting more and more picky every year. and it depends on which inspector you get aswell. this year there big thing is the new double loop rule in the vent's on fuel cell's. i seen 2 guys get sent home this year cause of that one alone. and ive been sent home too many times for going too damn fast or this that or the other. Worked then. I only live about 10 minutes away from ntr anyway. It looks like I won't be able to make it this week afterall. Next time I go it should be able to pass tech without a question. Mike C
In my experience, NTR has ALWAYS checked for a cut off switch on my car (or my friend's DSMs) when they have seen no battery in the engine compartment.
MrMeanGreen
It's a DSM, they probably expect them to blow up anyways Kisses, Mike
