I wanted to know what all I needed to be able to make some beats on my computer and then sing/rap etc into a mic that i can use for the beat? What all would I need to do very basic stuff. I'm not a musician at all or a rapper....i'm just trying to make dumb songs for myself and just experiment w/ some shit. So I'm looking for cheap stuff in case it sucks. Any other input is welcomed.

iLife with garageband on a mac is the easiest music recoding software ever.

Otherwise use winblowz programs "Fruityloops" or "Acid" to make your beats. Then use pretty much any audio program to record your singing... You can drop that into Acid along with your beat.

Fruityloops, acid, Sonar, logic. Plenty to choose from. How fluent are you? Fruityloops is alright. Good to start there and smooth it out with sonar. Will you be using say drum machine, guitar, keyboard? The best software I used that I liked was Reason.
