Turbodude
99 z28, just put an ASA cam, ls7 lifters, new lifter trays, comp 7.425 pushrods, thunder racing ported ls6 oil pump, ls2 timing chain, had the 853 heads stripped/cleaned up by a machine shop, new valve seals, ls6 valve springs, ls6 intake, ported throttle body, long tube headers, true duals with a x pipe, plugs, wires, stall converter, front and rear trans seals, all new GM gaskets on everything, new GM head bolts. All of this was installed at the same time. On first start up after adjusting the idle the oil pressure was 50psi or close to that, the problem is with in 20 minutes the pressure will drop to 0 - on the dash gauge, and the car shuts off. Let the car set overnight, next day 50 psi on start up and then it gradually goes back down to 0. Before starting it cold when we check the dipstick its full of oil, while running and the pressure reading in the mid 20's, after about 8-10 minutes of run time the dipstick is almost dry. Also while installing these mods we removed the AIR, EGR, PVC, and A/C systems, Im runing a EPP breather on the pass side and a autozone small breather on the driver side in place of the PVC, I dont know if removing any of that could of had an impact on the oil pres or not. Thunder Racing said the oil pickup o ring, so we checked and it was fine ? Anybody have any ideas on what to look at for the problem ? The car ran perfect before we did any of these mods, has 99,000 on it.
Linn1647545492
Try getting rid of the breathers on the vavle covers and see if that helps. Is the oil just sitting in the heads? Also with a ported LS6 oil pump 50psi is normal on start up.
rl
Explain the procedure you used when you installed the oil pump. Did you center the rotor in the housing with feeler gauges? Make sure you are using the correct pickup tube o-ring for the pump and tube you are using. Does the oil look frothy on the dipstick? if so odds are you have a leak around the pickup tube. From there I would check the mating surfaces of the oil pump to the block, it is a mached surface and any imperfections will cause a leak. The only other thing I could think of is if you have the oil drainback from the heads blocked, but you would be getting a LOT of oil out of your breathers. That would be pretty hard to do though. Pull a breather off and look in the valvecover with the car running, it will be easy enough to see.
RUTAN TA1647545492
If you start the car let it run until the oil psi starts to drop and look at the oil. is it foamy? or does it look normal? rl +1 on the oil pump install!
