TurboRust
I drove the car to work today and noticed gear oil all over the rear bumper, shit its dripping out the rear end cover. pull it in on a rack and pull the pan off http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e91/Turborust/myteeth.jpg 4 teeth broke off my ring gear of the 4.30's and shot into the rear end cover, one hit just right at the bottom between two bolt holes and allowed it to start leaking heavily. The cars getting parked for a little bit getting new rear suspension, 31 spline shit and 4.56's instead of 4.30's I'll be pullin wheels like Ray next spring. caseyctsv
456? nice new top speed of about 100 for you.... Do you just avoid 1st all together? It becomes a "creeper" gear.
lemosley01
4.6L DOHC need the extra-tall gearing. They don't make their torque down low. My Cobra was SOOOOO much more fun once I put gears in it.
nurkvinny
<<<==== Runs 4.56's
boostedgtp
Damn dude. I wonder whats top speed with the 456's?
Boost-n-Juice
you're breaking stuff because your pinion angle is not right. You need to get some adjustable uppers. it's going to be hard to pull the wheels with those springs you have, which is half your problem anyway. The car looks so damn good though. thorne
Stock mach1 is geared out to i think 250+ mph.
Guest Removed
ride height to low, none adjustable=bad. what brand gears were they? what was the setting for backlash?
Guest Hal
I'd go with 4.10s if you plan on street driving the car.
TEXASS
wow derek, hey friday was'nt you telling me you wish you had put 456 in it?
Dave1647545494
Thats why i mentioned new suspension, i'll be working with a taller spring /tire height adjustment to cut down on fender gap like it is now but keep the car from where it doesnt break shit everytime I romp the gas from having all the angles jacked up. Halbert i was already driving on 4.30's and it wasnt that bad. I had the car to 155ish on those gears. I dont need to be going that dman fast, so if 4.56 cuts me down to 140 top mph i wont really care. derek under dave's name
Dave1647545494
ride height to low, none adjustable=bad. what brand gears were they? what was the setting for backlash? they were motive gears, I had what I thought was a decent shop set them up. When apart the gears had a good wear pattern after 10k miles, they just broke apart. I put new fliud in and drove the car home no problems, i'm just afraid to beat on it like that. It could proabably be daily driven by a normal person for years, i just drive like a dick all the time.
Reed44
wow 4:56's . I couldnt stand the 4:10's in my mustang. You did launch that car hard though. Well its a reason to upgrade.
Dave1647545494
i had 7 timeslips form the day on et streets with 60' constantly ranging from 1.68-1.76 including 3 runs back to back to back 12.628, 12.621, 12.623 Derek posting again
Stimmel1647545512
Had a fox vert with 410s in in first gear was only used in dig races with cars with power launch from second would beat most cars around my parts haha
coryscobra
4:56's are great N/A. But for spray it will be to much for your car that is if you were still thinking about spray? Also I think with 4:56's it will do like 115-118 in 4th but our power drops off at 6500.
Dave1647545494
heres my runs from friday 1 1.736 12.738 108.95 2 1.751 12.805 108.39 3 1.690 12.623 107.87 4 1.700 12.626 109.02 5 1.720 12.621 109.11 6 1.693 12.576 108.
rl
The car will go faster NA with the 4.56's. You want to cross the traps 300-500rpm PAST your peak power. With 4.56's powershifting that car should go high 11's with 1.5x 60's on radials. You have to fix the suspension though.
Guest Removed
i asked about the backlash because , you can pretty much set it up for whatever! different settings for different reason's.sounds like they was setup for mainly light driving..not slicks and hard launch's.i had 4.30s in a couple of cars. i seen 100's on 1.6-1.5 60's or better out of richmond gears. never used motive gears. r they all in the same spot? or a tooth here and there? mrblunt
You were launching the total F outta that car so to see this isn't too surprising to me. Good luck w/ the new gears.
stolen 5.0
derek, make sure they set up your next set a little bit tighter. I agree with BC, pinion angle is hurtin you.
