AJ
it will actually decrease flow if done wrong. and if you leave it rough it will help atomize the fuel better for a more powerful charge. look at all the high dollar CNC ported heads, the intake runners are rough for that reason. Hinkernel (sp?) thought me that trick. you can kinda see it in this picture. don't mind all the brokeness, its an LS7 C6 Z06 head. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/CamaroAJ/JasonZ06001-1.jpg
Stimmel1647545512
Oh, I get it thanks AJ, Rob, Ill get possibly have you do it if you dont mind, It wont be going on the car till the curent disc swap is done and ill need to aquire heads a cam a gear drive roller rockers and some fancy valve covers first....might as well do it all at once right? ha
Guest Removed
correct! leave it rough. exhaust ports are the only thing that should be smooth. and it would help if the intake ports on the heads are gasket matched aswell. less air tubulance. rl
On a FI engine they don't help with atomization seeing as the goal is to have the injector spray directly on the back on a closed intake valve just before it opens, the heat in the valve does wonders. You are supposed to leave the surface rough, but you'll find that surface texture doesn't make a big difference at all on a flow bench (some people will argue that it doesn't make a difference at all). I would suggest not porting it at all, odds are it will work WORSE than it did before, especially if you dont do anything to the upper. I've had cars make 360rwhp NA through a untouched cobra intake. Stimmel1647545512
Well im picking up a GT40 intake tommorw and was wondering if anyone can give me tips on gasket matching it to a larger gasket just put the gasket on there trace with permanent marker and grind it out till flush....?
Guest Removed
i bolt the gasket down(to hold it in place) take something with a sharp end on it and scrib out the gasket edge, then use a a blue marker over the line to bring it out. black sharpy will do the same thing. but is more prone to rubbing off as you move the intake around on the bench. and take your time. only go in about 2 " or so. imo id extrude hone the upper, or get a box style upper for the lower! if any thing get my number from zack and call me. i can explain in more detail. i have the elec grinder and about everything you need to do it. just get you some of the sand paper rolls from jegs. your more then welcome to come do it.
