Pricing for the 1 series is out

I have been waiting on this car to come out to be one heck of a fun driver, but I do believe they have priced themselves out of the market. I priced out a nicely equipped 135 and it came to 45,700. http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/BYO/Default.aspx

I then priced a nicely equipped 335 and it came to 47,600. Then out of curiosity I priced a nicely equipped 08 vette and it came to 50,700. I have to say that if I was wanting a sporty BMW I would cough up the extra cash and buy the 335, and if I was looking for a fun driver I would have to get the vette for my money. They really need to drop the price by about 5k to get into the right price point. What do you think?

yep. i thought id be in for even a 128...ill have to check the pricing on it later tonight

I did price them all well equipped. Base on them is 36k for the 135 and 30k for the 128, but even with what I would consider as a minimum of what I would want I was about 40-41k for the 135.

I'll spend the extra 7K on the 335xi.

unfortunately this car is a major disappointment for me. Market pressures to include all of the navi and other options made this car balloon in weight. The weight of this car is way over what it should be, and that in my mind ruins the idea of having a small, nimble, fast car. Instead you have a car that pretends to be small but yet weighs just as much as an e46 M3...which I'd WAY rather spend my money on.

I'll just hold out for Andy to sell his M3 to me I suppose.

Yeah that sucks. I just talked to a friend of mine he has a 335. He has owned a few other BMW M3 5 series etc and said this is the best he has ever owned. He has the Vishnu (sp) upgrade and said he whipped up on a new Shelby.

Hopefully he has something to take care of the extra heat of the coolant and oil...........

Naga...Naga....

you just wait....it'll happen....but at the same time I need you to hold on to it for a while so I can pay off all my debt first.

Nate, I'm also interested to see some long term durability updates. I've heard that the N54 is suffering from the same cyllinder wash down and oil contamination problems from the direct injection that the RS4 was having.

Nate, what do you mean abnormal wear? Like failures? recalls what?

Oil temps are in the 250 F+ range...some 335i/ix didn't have factory oil coolers. People have been noticing large amounts of metal in the oil (above normal).

No failures of yet, but Dinan released a white paper saying the car is close to meltdown from the factory. They will only offer their warrenty on cars with aftermarket oil coolers and with their intercooler/exhaust package.

BMW released a statement that the factory oil temp sender was faulty and reading high and then causing the car to go into limp mode along with the other associated problems. Who knows if they're just trying to cover up/damage control though. Only the non-sport models came without the cooler originally and now all cars come with them, but I'd still think that an upgrade should be a must-do mod for anyone driving the car hard.

On bobistheoilguy they were saying that even the best synthetic oils are being so contaminated by fuel that they're breaking down in as little as 2K miles....that's scary....especially if you ever thought you'd buy one used and not knowing if they went with the stupid-long BMW recommended intervals.

Wow, I know Ray was considering one but like many was expecting the car to max out in the high 30's, what a shame.

Plus it won't have a diff last I read, instead it will use a traction control type of program that uses the brakes to "simulate" a rear differential, would be better off without anything of the sort at all so you could at least add one later on if you wanted.

That is still correct. The 335 is the same way. Open diff with program that uses the brakes to simulate a limited slip diff. There are, or will be soon, after market diffs for the 3 and I'm sure the 1 will have them as well. I don't know how this reacts with the traction control system. I heard Vishnu had put a quaife in their 335 test vehicle. The traction control system or vehicle stability program what ever you want to call it works well. You can almost be stupid with the car and it will correct for you “3 series”. Feels weird though.

why go through that trouble just put in a posi unit from the factory?
