Dave1647545494
fuck you and may you be hit by a bus whoever you are for inventing some stupid ass shit that can bend a valve if the cam slips while changing the timing belt then requiring some poor bastard to pull half the fucking motor apart to replace the bent part
81mercury
my minivan(3.0 chrysler) is an interference motor, just had the whole side of the motor apart for a new belt and water pump..not sure about others but they recomend a belt change on my motor every 30,000 what a pain in the ass...if it breaks your fucked so you have to change it
Drewhop
I second getting hit by the bus. If not mistaken the escort zx2 would be the king of random bent valve syndrome.
NTHER91
they make tools to lock the cam gears so that this dosnt happen
81mercury
they make tools to lock the cam gears so that this dosnt happen those only help if you change the belt before it breaks...so interference engines are still a stupid design....belt breaks randomly driving down the road and whipes out the top end of the motor.....JUNK
SinisterSS
yup! Honda/Acura motors are the same, but I have worked on a few Integra's that the timing belt broke but didn't do any valve damage.....
81mercury
my aunts neon(97) broke the belt and bent the exhaust valve in 2 diffrent cylinders but it didnt hurt the intake valves..weird
Guest Removed
ummm...interference engines have been around a long time. chains just dont break as much! btw ...if the belt gets lined up right, you dont bend valves. hence why i push timing belt replacement's
AJ
SBC, BBC, and even LS1's are interference engines if the chain brakes at high RPM. ask me how i know lol.
Guest Removed
doesnt even need to be high rpm
81mercury
i just changed the one in my van, it looked rough and i had it apart for a water pump so i went ahead and changed it....ive never broke a timing chain so i dont know about that..... Tindall2006
DSM... i feel your pain, looking for a new head now as it also took out the valve guides...

With a real man cam- your Mustang could join the interference crowd as well.
Farkas
If you did your timing belt changes like you're supposed to, nobody would have anything to bitch about

Guest Removed
not sure if those are like the 1.8l's or not but cant you put a roll pin punch in the top of the cam's to keep them from turning? honda was pretty good at doing stuff like that! I usually just grab somebody who's just standing around and have them hold the cam while I start the new belt but we were busy..... I'll be getting with my tool man to find a good set of holder tools so it doesn't happen again....
